Can you add envelopr midi data to the event list of midi clips?

I've mentioned before that I find things like host automation and pitch bend to be tedious in Sonar. I want to be able to create precise envelopes for modulation processes, like complex filter sweeps. That way I can take some of the cpu burden off of synths like omnisphere. If the event list could list all the nodes of an envelope with their position and level data I would have a quick and very efficient way to manipulate the data. Kind of like how the event list provides a fast way to create high hat swing by varying the velocity and position of high hat hits.

Is it possible to add envelope node data to the event list? Or is there a similar convenient way to work with envelope data? Thanks!

The MIDI Automation envelope segments show as Shape events in the Event List, but they are not editable there. I have to say though that it's hard to imagine a more tedious method of editing automation envelopes than by typing in times and values of nodes in the Event List.

To my mind, the most convenient way to work with automation is to write it in real time using a control surface, but it seems you're actually more interested in surgical precision than convenience. In that case, editing envelopes in tracks (or automation lanes) is really the only option. You can right-click nodes to get their properties to precisely set times and values.

Thanks for the response. I agree on the control surface but that's not an option for me. I probably should have mentioned that I spend most of my time on my laptop. Screen real estate is a big issue for me, and being hunched over at my desk squinting at my screen drawing in envelopes with the mouse aggravates me and costs me valuable work flow. Right clicking each node to manually enter the position and level value is what I have been doing. But if I wanted to experirment with complex automation and perhaps multiple different envelopes on the same track, right clicking on each node and then manually entering the data and then exiting out and rinse and repeat is waaaay more work than scrolling down the event list would be, if for no other reason than that you don't need to stop and use the mouse when you're in the event list. And since a lot of people who produce music with complex forms of automation spend alot of time working from laptops, I imagine it would be a convenient method for other people too.

One way to get envelop data converted to MIDI data is to record the track to another MIDI track using a virtual MIDI cable.
