Sonar X1: Missing MIDI port question

     I recently had to replace my computer motherboard. I expected that my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra audio interface would require some 'tuning' and indeed it does. When I open Sonar X1, I get a "Missing MIDI Port" window which indicates that 2-Fast Track Ultra Out is missing. It gives me the option of selecting another port, which I did: Port 5, and this works. I also went into Preferences under MIDI and made sure that Port 5 Out was selected. Yet, the error message reappears when I reopen Sonar. What am I missing? It's been a while since I installed X1 and I don't recall what I need to change to correct the error. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

No, not really a different name. I'm pretty lame when it comes to Sonar X1, so I may have missed your question. I have given ports simple names; is that the cause of the problem? I saved a test project after reassigning the port, but the error message appeared when I reopened the test project. This is more of a nuisance than a problem: I can switch Port 2 out to Port 5 out each time, but I'd rather correct it ASAP.

...and make sure you resave the project once ALL midi outputs are set to the new port.
 

So, I believe I know what the problem is, and have a solution (thanks to your replies to my post). All saved X1 MIDI projects give the MIDI port error, which can easily be resolved by either (1) reassigning in the popup window that appears when the project is opened, or (2) by reassigning each MIDI track to the correct output. After correcting individual tracks and saving the project, reopening does not produce the error.
 
Also, I was fooled by my own default settings that I use for making a new project. My 'default' setting when making a new project results in the reassignment error; however, creating a new project with the 'normal' settings that shipped with X1 does not. And, MIDI played just fine with the 'normal'-made new project.
 
So, I think I know what needs to be done to correct the reassign ports problem: edit my "default" settings when making a new project to reflect the new output port, and when opening previously made projects, go thru and change the MIDI output port on each MIDI instrument. I'm 90% sure this will work.

End of story: I corrected my default template and all is well. Previously saved projects once their MIDI port assignments have been changed and saved open without error. Thanks.
