    After importing the track
    Select the track
From the Track Vierw Tracks menu select "Bounce to Track(s)"
In the Bounce to Track(s) dialog set "Source Category" to Tracks and "Channel Format" to "Split Mono"

This is even easier, when importing the file check the "Import as mono tracks" box
