Did anybody try to uninstall X2 or X3 when Platinum installed?
Hey there. My computer getting bloated. I use Sonar Platinum, I also have X2 and X3 installed and I am thinking to uninstall them finally. I might keep X3, because my old computer has X3. My understanding- Platinum will have no problems to open X3 files, right? How about X3- can it open Platinum files or do I have to save them in different way? I will not ask what synth I will lose- I remember- Sessional Drummer will disappear, right? Anything else major? I am worrying that these versions have some shared folders and during uninstall it may take out entire 'Sonar Projects" or something else important out. Did anybody try to uninstall X1-3 when Platinum installed? Was platinum remain stable after? Thank you.

I have uninstalled X2 and X3. And I can open all files from X1, X2, X3 (or Sonar 7, 8) There is also no problem opening files from Sonar, which are over ten years old, for example from the year 2002.

That is good to know. But how do you open Platinum files on X3? I guess I should try while I have both? Also the Rapture, Zeta and Dimension Pro would not get uninstalled, right? Thanks.

Sonar is designed to be backwardly compatible with projects created by earlier versions. So opening X3 files in Platinum will work by design. There is no guarantee that you can open files created in later versions in an earlier version. So if you want to work with platinum files on another computer, you will need to have platinum installed on both computers.

Also now that I am thinking about it and looking at my synth list... The old stuff that came with Sonar- I did not install it from the Command center because I knew that I have it. But if I uninstall, I will not know what I need to reinstall. Now I am thinking I may need to uninstall all Sonar versions and install everything from the Command center, as may things in there marked in red because I never installed it, because I already had it, so I dont get updates for it (if there updates).

There is no guarantee that you can open files created in later versions in an earlier version. So if you want to work with platinum files on another computer, you will need to have platinum installed on both computers. So the Sonar does not have Compatibility "Save" option? Even Word lets you save in Office 97 format. There is no way to save it so it opens in older versions? This is a bummer. So this means I need to keep X3, try to open Platinum project, then save in X3 before I can use it on another computer? And it is still |iffy"? That makes no sense.

I've had good luck opening projects from newer versions with older versions, except of course that anything unique to the new version will not be present. But the basics will be there.

Thanks. So should I uninstall all versions and install just Platinum from Command center or should I uninstall only X2 and X3 and then install from command center only parts that show in red? Ugh- drop outs... Not to change the subject- need to find my old thread and also try to delete that .AUD file. Also if I delete .AUD, will it lose the modules I selected for upper part of the main window? Because I may as well reinstall everything? If I uninstall everything, will it delete .AUD file and address my dropouts? I have to tell you- I have probably every software synths under the moon installed- I dont want to make trouble- everything is working great now, other than dropouts...

Actually Sonar (the program) has a small footprint size wise, my opinion would be to look for other programs or files to delete to make space. Just my humble opinion.
