Used to be a loyal bottom feeder with Play. Free samples and teasers. You got maybe 6 or so instruments that worked with the freebie. With the new updates over the last couple years, I don't get nothing unless the plastic card is fired up. Are the free teasers gone or is it maybe my system that can't install them? I was on the East West Bandwagon when it belonged to Native Instruments, and used Kompakt...and still have the Kompakt version of EastWest Symphonic Orchestra Silver...and it STILL works, even on Win 10!!!

Ya I still use Colossus imported in to Kontakt 5. EastWest knows how to make some great sounding samples, but their programmers suck and their CEO is so convinced they are amazing that he won't change anything around. I bought my Play upgrades back when they came out and waited patiently for promised fixes and improvement. Finally after years, I'd had it and switched over to Kontakt and other libraries which has worked great. I don't even have Play installed on this system build, just not worth the headache :P.

No kidding. I remember when they called it "Play 2" which, as one might expect, means that Play 1 was current then. Then I remember them actually putting it on sale for a time for preorder... that was about, I dunno 6 years ago at least. Since then? Nothing. I just got tired of it. With Play I always felt like I was walking on eggshells and had to bounce individual tracks as soon as they were ready, then immediately check for glitches. With Kontakt I just do whatever I want, don't bounch anything, and render the final project when ready.

Play is trouble free these days. Kontakt is not trouble free....nothing is... I feel they are comprable in terms of stability. Scripting? Kontakt hands down.

I'm just not willing to bother with Play anymore. I had lots of people tell me it was fixed many times, lots of advice offered, a fair bit of it bad, and I just kept having problems. When Play 4 came out and still had issues, I finally just gave up. Maybe I'm just unlucky, maybe I am doing something wrong. All I know is it had tons of problems, mostly related to glitches when bouncing tracks, and Kontakt does not. Neither do any of my other soft synths, for that matter, Kontakt is just the one that has replaced Play.

I use Play with ProDrummer and find the load times incredibly slow. kontakt and every major drum engine that I have used let you at least play while the samples are loading.

This is where I'd like to have an SSD for these libraries...then they load pretty fast... but that WAY down the priority list right now...

Their stuff does load all kinds of slow. Part of the issue is they don't use sample compression. Not sure why, everyone has gotten on that bandwagon these days and there are free algorithms out there, but they don't. That aside, it just loads slow. Not as slow as it used to, but still slow :P.
