sync files between desktop and laptop - instrument definitions, and outputs, etc

what files do I need to copy over for new midi hardware definitions and preferences so they stay the same when i go from office to church? -  i have the instrument definitions loaded -
is there a file that keeps track of   what instrument is assigned to what track and midi channel bus, etc that each project files looks up?

I want to keep from "reassigning" MIDI OUTPUTS, CHANNELS, INSTRUMENTS AND PATCHES, ETC ( sorry  caps lock...)

I basically want the program to mirror whats set up on my desktop.

I hate to have to import this stuff all over and reassign instruments to midi outputs.  ( I already copied my instrument def's folder)

Thanks
WG

hmm... probably not fully understanding but...

Couldn't you just save the project(s) you want mirrored on the laptop (using "per project audio folder" option selected) and copy them over to the laptop before you leave the house?

I don't think there is a way to keep two systems totally auto sync'd without a third party program (like add your projects folder to some kind of backup program that points to your laptop as the backup device).

It's all of the midi instrument definitions...  ( 3 X 16 )   which piece of hardware and voice assignment assigned to which midi midi output ( i have 3 )...   and those spec for the tracks in a song.

Rather than having to reload each voice assignment since i added an instrument definition and another midi output.

Thinking there should be a file that keeps track of what sonar has hooked up.   I copied all of the folders with me in case an answer come up.  other wise... i sit there and re-create each midi output assignment and voice for each instrument  -  and it would be nice to have the same midi assignments ( for each channel the same so I can go back and forth and edit without screwing evertying up on the desktop configuration. )

Thanks... I'll do some more looking around after i get to church and get set up if no one has crossed this path yet.

When I got to church,  I hooked up all of my hardware and then booted my laptop - it wasn't pretty...
I lucked out and had some voices fall into place - I figured that was because I ended up assigning the right synth to the right port and channel...  which has to be a big clue.
    My guess is this:

I have a UM2 and Maudio FW midi channel.
I dug around on google and found some really old threads from way back when "PITN" and PITA  were two descriptions of this same situation I figured maybe they have done something over time to address that.

I recently upgraded to platinum but for the sake of time have not gone beyond seeing a whole new interface that I need to get a grip on...     a little more intense screen time than I can deal with  at my age with my ability to "adjust to change" without a lot of eye strain.  at least while I need to complete stuff for Christmas season without more stress.

Don't mean to take up time other than this thought??  I was thinking i might try to set an instrument to an entire midi port...  rather than channels (if possible).  It might make it more "uniform" rather than mixing synths on um1 and um2,   etc.
I guess I'll write to tech support and see if they have any ideas.   I was hoping that I could have some "global solution like a global configuration file that once I set one computer I could copy it to the other one"  ( not sure how this all works... can you tell ?)

Nothing more to add, other than I got a major headache last night trying to come close to having things sound like they did on the desk top.
Appreciate all the other help recently.....
