SONARPLT.exe has stopped working
This is after trying Windows 10. I have reinstalled the latest Sonar, check for updates on everything. It was working earlier and now it isn't. Any ideas?

Did you reinstall the Presonus driver?

No..I'll try that. I did install the latest driver before upgrading to Win 10. Harrison mixbus 2.5 and 3.0 work fine.

When SONAR was reinstalled, was it a clean reinstall? IOW, was the registry cleaned prior to reinstalling. If not, try re-personalizing SONAR by holding the CTRL+SHIFT when starting SONAR. This will reset the ini files and some registry entries back to default values.

I may have found it. My sound card changed the buffer settings to 2048. I switched it back to 64 and Sonar is working. I wonder how that setting changed before I re-installed the driver? I wonder if I should still try the clean install thing?

If the buffer change fixes the problem and it sounds like a good candidate. I would not mess with anything else.

It seems that after closing Mixbus...I have the problem with Sonar. Both are set the same. 64 buffers 48khz. When I get the message that Sonarplt.exe has stopped working and must close...I can swith the buffers to any other setting and then back to 64. close Sonar, and then Sonar will work the next time I open it.

Again...I open Mixbus 3.0 played it for a couple of seconds and saved project. Then close Mixbus. I open Sonar and get the message. Open the soundcard and everything is set fine, but I have to switch it, and then switch it back for Sonar to work. Very Strange. Is Windows 10 worth it? Not to me. I'll try to find a solution, but Windows 7 is looking pretty good to me. I believe this could be a compatibility issue between my 44VSL and Windows 10. I'm sure Sonar is fine. I haven't even considered this a Sonar problem. If I keep Windows 10...I'll probably need a new soundcard.

When I read your original post I done a google search for your sound card and Windows 10, one of the things that turned up was the Windows 10 compatibility statement from Presonus which stated compatibility with Windows 10, another thing I read was that another reviewer/testing site reported full compatibility with Zero issues http://support.presonus.c...ompatibility-Statement http://pcaudiolabs.com/windows-10-for-pro-audio/ AUDIO INTERFACE The PreSonus Audiobox 44VSL was utilized, using the latest drivers available. The interface worked flawlessly in all cases.
NOTE - this second link was also using Sonar Platinum.

Well I call BS on that!!! Hahaha. I'm rolling back to 7 now. I'm typing this on a 7 year old linux laptop that works perfectly by the way. I've read everything from Presonus...including that VSL is now discontinued, so it won't get better. I did notice a difference in Windows 10 when I could get it to work with Sonar. I have never been able to use the 64 buffer setting. I'm usually at 128. The latest Presonus driver has worse latency, so I'll go back to the previous driver on it too. I'll have to get another soundcard to use Win 10 and probably to keep on the upgrade path with Sonar. I'm thinking I may wait until something breaks.

If you do not run Mixbus, does everything work fine ? Part of my reticence to purchasing Mixbus is from a fear of everything going pear shapped after certain things I have read on various forums, where there have been numerous reports of things going haywire after installing Mixbus, that and it's Linux heritage. I'm typing this on a 7 year old linux laptop that works perfectly by the way.
Yeah, but I'm willing to bet that Sonar isn't working perfectly on it and that it isn't very useful for much else that you do ? I have 6 systems converted over to Windows 10, all varying hardware and software, 2 of them strictly DAW only, and none of them any issues for however many months Windows 10 has been released, I'll get back to you in 10 years and let you know how it goes Myself, I wouldn't go back to Windows 7 Pro for anything, Windows 10 is far superior in all areas from my experience. YMMV and unfortunately it seems yours does :(

I think if you stuck it out, and yes I know it takes time, time you might not have or want to spend on it, but if you did and got it all working fine, I doubt you would regret the decision or look back for a moment. I had zero issues myself, apart from a bit of 'culture shock' initially where I wanted it to be more like Windows 7 Pro, I done the roll back dance, but like you came back again, and just got used to it, from that point on there was no turning back. Anyway, best of luck with it.

The last thing I checked was to see if Mixbus may be causing this. It wasn't, as far as I can tell everything worked perfectly fine with Mixbus. Windows 10 and Presonus. The issue never happened with anything other than Sonar. And your correct...my Linux isn't good for much. I don't care for Linux either. I have rolled back again (3rd time) and everything is working fine again...IDK what the problem is for sure, but I don't have a problem with Window 10 itself. I just need my Sonar to work. I still have around 6 months to try and figure out what I need to do. The simple fix may be getting a Focusrite. I'll be in contact with ADK Pro Audio to see what they recommend. They have already told me to not install Win 10 yet, but I figured it's pretty harmless to try it. Thanks for everyone's time on this. I do appreciate it. scook you can terminate this thread if you want.

I'll probably try Win 10 again after the new Sonar update happens...after sleeping on it. It seems strange that Mixbus works fine and Sonar doesn't. Maybe there is something in the latest Sonar that doesn't jive with the Presonus driver and Win 10. As I said earlier...the latest 44VSL driver came out in July of 2014. Is there anyone else on the forum using a Presonus VSL? I'm doing a system restore from 11/18/15 just in case something changed that I'm unaware of or have forgotten. When the new Kingston update happens I'll try Win 10 again.

Well, I happen to have the Presonus AudioBox 1818VSL, which is the big brother to what you have. I am running that into a USB 2.0 port with Windows 8.1, and it works flawlessly for me. I was just looking through the Presonus web site, checking for any driver updates for my interface, and for an expansion unit I also have (DigiMax FS - which adds 8 more inputs using ADAT to connect to my AudioBox 1818 VSL, giving me 16 inputs). Anyways, you had posted earlier about VSL being discontinued, so I looked around on their site, and I don't see where your audio interface is discontinued, though my DigiMax FS expansion unit is. Here is the link to their site, showing all of their discontinued products as of now: http://www.presonus.com/products/Discontinued-Products Additionally, I don't understand why a large buffer would cause any crashes in Sonar, and in fact, when done with recording and moving on to mixing/mastering, your would WANT to set the ASIO Buffer Size to be either 1024 or 2048 - to allow more heavy duty plugin effects to be used. (look-ahead processing or CPU hogs). Aren't there any crash dumps or logs available that might show what is going on? Are you plugged into a USB 2 port or a USB 3 port? Is the Sample Rate in Sonar set the same as the audio interface's Sample Rate? Do you happen to have your Windows Default Audio Device set to also use the ASIO drivers for the audio interface? Do you have any hard drives that have variable speeds? (they usually claim to be Green) Does your computer have Sleep/Hibernate enabled? Bob Bone

Good questions...IDK the answers to all of them, but I'll answer what I can. 1. There wasn't any crash dumps. The message only said that "SONARPLT.exe has stopped. Windows will notify you when a fix has been found" Not the exact words, but that was the message. 2. I use usb 2.0 and my 44VSL has worked perfectly for the almost 4 years I've used it. 3. Sample rates are the same. I tried several things and nothing worked. 4. I'm not sure how Windows audio drivers are set up. ADK Pro Audio set up my PC...I need to look into that. 5. I don't know if my hard drives have variable speeds or not. They are both 7200 RPM Seagates. 500 gb os drive, 1 tb project drive. 6. Sleep/Hibernate should be off. I'll double check. 7. VSL discontinuation notice. http://support.presonus.com/entries/105171763-AudioBox-VSL-Software-Discontinuation-Notice Thanks for the ideas.

The VSL discontinuation notice is for the mixer software part of it, and has nothing to do with the hardware going away. They ran into a problem on the Mac OSX platform, and they decided to drop the PC development of that mixer software, that's all. They indicate in the notice text that the hardware is still offered and supported, and that if they need to make any changes to the UI that they will release some other software that will work just fine. From the notice "Due to the discontinuation of the VSL Software for the Mac OS X platform, PreSonus will no longer be continuing development of VSL Software for the AudioBox VSL Series for the PC Platform. In the event we need to update the driver and control panel, a new version will be released with VSL mixing removed. " Bob Bone

I had problems with Sonar (on Windows 7) after using Mixbus 3. I tried several things, but ended up uninstalling Mixbus 3, and have had no problems since. Mixbus 2 seems fine. I will re-install when they release another update, and see what happens.

interesting - if you reinstall, can you check if it's after using mixbus without restarting windows before using sonar, or if it's just by having mixbus installed?

It seemed to be after using Mixbus without restarting Windows, IIRC.
