TTS-1 - default settings
hello i want to know how can i change the default settings of tts-1 synthesizer i use mc7 to play my midi files (i use it only for that) using tts-1 synthesizer. when i open a midi file in mc7 tts-1 is automatically used as midi output but i have a small problem: everytime i open a midi file i have to change the settings in tts-1 manually polyphony limit is set to 48 per default some of my midi files need more so i have to set it manually to 128 (max) in tts-1 > system and tts-1 is using chorus and reverb filter per default in tts-1 > effect i prefer to play the midis without reverb how can i change the default tts-1 settings ??i want 128 polyphony limit instead of 48and reverb to be disabled per default i have to change these settings everytime i open a new midi file manually i havn't found a cfg or ini file to change the default tts-1 settings hope smb can help thx peter

Aside from creating a track or project template containing a preconfigured TTS-1, I do not know of a way to save any of the TTS-1 settings. Some settings are not retained at all and must be set every session such as "Light Load Mode" in System Options. Of course, this would not be very convenient if you are relying on the automatic mapping MC does when opening a MIDI file. I assume you are saving project files for each MIDI file. At least you will only need to open as a MIDI file once and the project will retain almost all of the TTS-1 setup.

thx for your reply hmmm i guess my chances are zero that the tts-1 devs from roland will compile a new TTS-1.dll for me with other default settings

i have found a way to save the default settings or at least the polyhony limit can be saved.... in tts-1 under system > option u can save and load a "performance file" for tts-1 but..... tts-1 doesn't load the file on default everytime i open a midi file i have to load the performance file in tts-1 manually loading the performance file takes 1 step more compared to just change the poly limit and the effect setting is not saved in the performance file anyway

this is a known bug for TTS-1, unfortunately, and Roland has no plans to update TTS-1. it's been this way for many years.

One thing I have discovered in my many years of working with digital recorders..... Sometimes, you just gotta do what you gotta do to get the job done.

yep u r right :-) btw i asked rolands german customer support if they are planning to release the "sound canvas for ios" for windows they said they dont have plans to do so atm i guess cakewalk has an exclusive deal with roland about the tts-1 so roland cannot release a new sound canvas tool for windows the tts-1 is basically a sound canvas (somewhere between a SC-55 and a ED SC-8820)

https://www.rolandmusik.de/products/sound_canvas_for_ios/ this would be nice as vst or standalone for windows but they don't plan to release it for windows (yet) the vsc-mp1 and the tts-1 is basically the same tts-1 has less sounds and drum kits (256/9 compared to 902/26) but u can create user sounds and drumkits in tts-1 (512/128) both should sound (nearly) the same playing midi files may be tts-1 is slightly better may be not

offtopic: another nice way to play midis is using dosbox emulator and gravis ultrasounds playmidi midi player using gravis offically pro patches light 1.61 patches (gravis dos playmidi.exe player can play modern midis with -verbose or-debug mode without hangs, crashes etc) gravis ultrasound has its own sound playing midis can be better or worse compared to a sound canvas

Roland sold a software product called HyperCanvas. TTS-1 is similar to HyperCanvas. The major differences are HyperCanvas was available as a DXI and VST products and was available on both Windows and Mac platforms while the TTS-1 is essentially the HyperCanvas DXI with a different skin. I don't think Mac operating systems accept DXI synths.

The TTS synth is a very nice synth and has multi-channel capability, and yeah, I've heard some amazing musical projects from people who used it to do an orchestral project that was jaw dropping. And as I recall, the person in question claimed to have moused every note for every instrument into the midi tracks.... making it even more impressive. However, I have stopped using it for the most part since it is a basic synth and uses patches vs the better synths which, now days, use samples. It has a purpose and a place, to be sure, but sound wise.... there are a bunch of synths on the market and in my VST list that sound better.
I use the Cakewalk Sound Center synth now for several things since it is a sampled synth. In addition, I have a number of other synths, including Kontakt, which support some amazing samples and of course, Kontakt has one of the larger third party supplied sample libraries around. Both of these, however, are one channel synths so to do 4 instruments requires 4 instances of those synths in question. Not really a major issue, since freezing the synth or render to audio removes all of the processing..... and you have a simple audio track to work with.

The price Roland is asking ($125 US) is a lot for a VST soft synth but it is designed to perfectly emulate all the discontinued hardware sound canvas models. They are giving you pretty much exactly what you asked for.

$125 for Sound Canvas? Holy Carp, Batman! I can think of a lot of things I'd rather spend $125 on than a softsynth emulator of the RSC!
