After a few minor initial hiccups, W10 is doing a fine job here. But then I came from 8.1, so even Vista would have been a step up. It's unlikely I'll be backrevving.

I'm still on 8.1. I guess I need to consider taking the plunge soon.

Yes, Win10 is an improvement over 8.1, but I thought 8 was an improvement (performance wise) over Vista. I was an early adaptor to 8. Never really liked Vista. That's why I kept XP on my music PC until 7 came out.

I downloaded it last night....I like it better than 8.1 from what I can tell. Haven't had the chance to use it much yet.

Generally, if X3 worked well in Win 8/8.1, it should work better in Win 10. It's more of if your hardware drivers have good support (Win8/8.1 & Win 10), it's a positive upgrade. This was the case for me.

Cheers. Just for future reference. Trying to decide what to settle on. Probably will be 10. I was pricing a system while building it online and I needed a lie down in a dark room when I saw the price. I'll probably go/stay X3, which cost me about £26 - that's a bargain! No plans to buy Sonar Saint Kitts & Nevis just yet.

I'd expect almost any version of SONAR to work. I'm running 8.5 under W10 with no problems. You're more likely to have driver issues than anything else, but my understanding is that most drivers that worked with 7 or 8 should also be compatible with 10.

Not here. I can't get Sonar to work with Windows 10. I'm not sure if it's the driver for my Presonus 44VSL or something else, but I have had 3 tries and 3 failures. Win 7 works perfectly.

Mine installed its self earlier today as I mentioned in another thread. It was a bit rude IMHO. I was using Windows 8.1 with Classic Shell which was uninstalled in the update. There is a Win 10 version of Classic Shell if you want the OS improvments but wish to retain a Win7 style interface. I am thinking I will not need it but its there if I find the Win 10 interface intolerable.

I went from XP to 10, never used Vista, 7 or 8..so, bit of a change.. . Getting used to it slowly. Sonar Professional and Focusrite 2i4 working fine, except I don't seem to have any control over latency buffers using ASIO drivers. Still figuring that one out.

Thanks Bit. I don't know how much longer I have to actually see anyway so I decided I didn't want to waste time try8ing to figure out a new OS.

I upgraded my laptop a month or so ago and after an hour went back to W7 - mainly because of the awful blurry text and secondly because it didn't install my two printers and adamantly refused to seen any devices at all on my home network. I tried again yesterday and everything went sweet as a nut - apparently a couple of versions ago MSoft bowed to the torrent of complaints and fixed the blurry text issue, and the two printers are there ok. Now the big one; do I dare upgrade my DAW? I searched for new drivers for my MAudio MIDIsport Anniversary interface and RME AIO sound card. There was a newer driver for the MIDI interface but it error failed when I tried to launch it. There's a newer driver for my AIO but it says its for 'MDM' and I use ASIO. Great. I may just go for it and (try to) roll back if it's a disaster.

Excluding my Old XP computer which is packed away . I only have one Windows computer . A Win 8 64 bit lap top . At first I didn't like 8 at all , then I got used to it (that one took a while ). I'm under the impression that I would have to put 8.1 on my lap top first before anything significant could happen as far as upgrading would go ….Every time I'm online and the computer asks me to upgrade to 8.1 I always hit the not now option . I honestly don't know what to do at this point . It took me the better part of two years to get my computer the way it is now . It is not gonna set any bench mark records , but I'm very happy to a point where it s at now and I am afraid to screw up a good thing …They can't force 10 on me if I'm on 8 can they ? Dear Abby what should I do Kenny

8.1 is an improvement over 8.0, and worth the upgrade if you don't plan on going to 10. But 8.1 isn't required; you can go straight from 8 to 10.

Windows 8.1 retail licenses are still out there. This might come in handy of running OEM versions of Windows and want a retail 10 license. Rumor has it you can run the W10 update as long as it is registered, you can revert back to your previous OS and you can install the W10 free past the free offering date. I use you hate W8 but with Classic Shell it's just like any other OS. I think I'd prefer it to W10 right now because W10 updates remove your previous setting. Advance network sharing is broken. I also find the MS support website being totally useless for W10. They post a link for the solution which most people never find helpful. I call it the MS circle jerk.
