OverLoud TH3 Rocks!

Install TH3.
Open up Utilities > Cakewalk Plugin Manager
VST Audio FX > TH3 > Click Plugin Properties
Click Configure as Synth
Put it on a track.
Save the project.
Close the project.
Open the project.
Delete TH3 from the track.

Sonar Hangs indefinitely until you end task on it.

I had a great night playing TH3 as a regular VST. I did not have any luck with the midi mapping stuff and the smart slots are all gone. I'm not sure it's going to work with my expression pedal anymore.

I give a word of caution on TH3.

It's seems buggy.

Sonar hangs all the time.

Freezes.

Could just be me.

But...

I find myself unable to open preferences in a project that has only TH3 and Rapture Pro. Who's to blame?

On a project with only TH3, Sonar volume output suddenly fails completely, even for pre-recorded audio.

Still messing around, but finding it not quite ready for sale.

I can't use midi controllers with TH3.

Re: TH3 Crash Case 2015/11/24 06:33:53 (permalink)
Another example...

In trying to repeat issues I opened Sonar to new project... 1 track... only TH3 on it.

Experience Th3 > Clean - Rock Cln Preset

Turn off Metronome, hit record.

Open Looper using the looper button.

Pull a string on the guitar and click record on the looper.

After a few seconds hit stop...

Sound stops in Sonar as if you are getting the Rapture Pro Silent Treatment. It never returns without restarting Sonar.

I'm getting frustrated. Maybe it's Sonar? Idk. I've had no fun playing music this morning.

From the limited playing around I did with it today, it seems pretty stable on my system too but I'll dig a bit further before I drop any money on the full version I think.

I've been having crashing issues with TH3 too. Using it with Sonar Platinum.  Anytime TH3 is active, I'll open a project, and the first thing I notice is the audio engine stops right after Sonar loads the project.  So I'll restart the audio engine, press play, and after a minute or so Sonar completely freezes up, and I have restart it.
I'm wondering if it's because I have TH2 and TH2 Producer installed with it? (but not running at the same time)   I'll have to try uninstalling the previous versions and see if it makes a difference.
Otherwise I like the interface much better than TH2, and the efx sound good (when I can get it to work).

I seem to have the same as Leee.  I still have TH2 installed, I'll see if uninstalling TH2 makes a difference.  I've contacted Overloud tech support, no response yet.
Basically, anything with TH3 (even a new project, just a few tracks with no clips, just TH3 plugins) will cause the audio engine to stop. Just about any activity will freeze Sonar (Platinum, was Jamaica Plain, now Kingston).
TH3 on its own, outside Sonar looks impressive, and worth the upgrade ... IF it works in Sonar.

To gswitz - afraid Kingston didn't help me.
Overloud replied, they can't reproduce it, and ask if I can send a file to them where the fault occurs.

My reply - I'll have to do that much later today (I'm at work at the moment, in UK).  I did it with any file with TH3, including a brand new file with one midi (unused) and three audio tracks - no clips, just TH3 in each of them, no other content in the file.

Yeah, it's freezing up for me a lot too in Sonar. It's not creating minidump files for the VST though.

I'm thinking there's a Sonar issue at play. I've just upgraded to Kingston... let's see....

I upgraded to Kingston.

I just can't use TH3 at all. Sonar Freezes constantly.

If I save a project and try to re-open it, I get constant crashes.

Sonar Freezes. Nothing in minidump folder.

It just isn't usable for me. I can't open the VST after saving the project.

I tried to install TH3 on my laptop to isolate it as a computer issue and got an error trying to authorize (Internal Error) or something. Idk.

So ... It's not working well.

I think I'll just shelve it for a while.

Thanks for your reply Overloud.
Just an update:  I tried loading TH3 on just an empty audio track, with nothing else loaded in the project.
And I still get the same results:  I close the file, reopen it. Sonar reports audio engine has stopped, I will restart the audio engine.  Press play, then stop.  Then Sonar freezes.
Thanks again, looking forward to the fix, as I really like the new version (except for the bug, of course) :)

Ditto.  Sigh.  Interesting, though, that it works fine IF I turn off the TH3 plugin in each track that i have it loaded on and then save it the project.  When I reopen the file, I play a few bars with TH2 turned on, which was the orignal amp sim on these tracks.  Then, I turn off TH2 and turn TH3 back on.  Bingo, it's all fine.  At least I can get into a session and it works fine after that goofy workaround.

That's a good work around for now...just turn them off before you save and close the
session.  That might do the trick till this is fixed...

I get a message box that says internal error when I try.

I am reassured that Overloud posted on our thread. They also emailed me. I wouldn't want them to work over the holidays for this. I'm sure we will get it worked out soon. You all agree? Back me up? I love the sounds and I'm excited but also patient.

I'm not a patient person, one of my many flaws....and the first thing I thought when I saw Overloud's post was, of course, to ask....How long do you think it will take to fix?  A few days?  Weeks?  Months?   Hopefully it'll be an easy fix.
But I'll try the workaround posted above, if it works for me that will keep me happy until the fix.

temporary workaround for this: you can authorize a USB flash drive instead of the laptop.
no need for a "dedicated" usb drive in this case: the license files only take less than a megabyte of space on the drive in their own "Overloud Licenses" folder. You can use the rest of the space on the drive for your files as usual.

TY Overloud! The trick with the USB Authorization enables me to use it on my laptop.

I did try offline authorization first and that failed the same as the Online Authorization.

Now I'm able to use TH3 on my vacation. I am loving the sounds. It's super sweet!

It might help to know that the laptop OS is Windows 10 N Professional clean install (not an upgrade). I believe this is the same as my desktop which authorized without an issue.

On a side cakewalk note, I was trying the work around to disable TH3 before saving and closing the project and I grouped the power button on 2 different tracks for the FX Chains containing TH3.

This works to disable them, but when I save the project and re-open it, they are no longer grouped.

Could someone confirm? I tried to submit a Problem Report, but the problem reporter seems to not allow the submission of problem reports anymore. :-)
