Just finished watching Artifact - instead of working. Excellent and I second Bob's recommendation.

Spoiler Alert: it has a happy ending.

Hey, Bit, how’s it going, buddy?  Hope you’re doing great!

Thought you might like this one!  Although, I think you might have missed literally the last three text screens before the credits in the last 60 seconds or so of “Artifact” starting at 1:40 to 1:41.  Actually, not really much of a happy ending on the band’s part, even after selling two million copies of the album and the sold out tour.  Unbelievable!

LOL, how about the “Packaging” and “Breakage” fee clauses on all Digital Downloads?  Amazing what corporate executives and lawyers for the major labels get away with!

Glad you enjoyed it, and have a great day, Bit!

Thanks, Bob.

After watching it, as a mental exercise I tried to form a counter-argument on behalf of EMI.

I drew a comparison with Microsoft. Like EMI, Microsoft is nothing without the content that its software designers and engineers create. Those guys and gals are the equivalent to a record company's talent pool. They, too, have "360" contracts insofar as Microsoft owns anything they create, even if they do it on their own time. They may also be contractually prohibited from going to work for a competitor. Like EMI, Microsoft pays them a very small percentage of the company's revenue.

But there are two big differences. Software engineers don't have to take out a loan before they can start working, and most of them are free to walk at any time. Anything else would be indentured servitude.

So in the end, I had to conclude that Terra Firma really is the villain of this story. Sadly, the scenario of an investment company wading in and destroying its acquisitions isn't limited to just the recording industry.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Happy Thanksgiving to my friends who observe it.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to share this just in case anyone was interested.

I have a song over in the song forum.  A responder asked me if maybe a fella named Eel might be one of my influences.  I have to say that the name rang a bell, but I couldn't remember from where, so I did an internet search and finally remembered why the man they call Eel sounded familiar.

This is a documentary about his father, HUGH EVERETT III, the quantum physicist author of the Parallel Universe theory.  The film is narrated by Eel.

Spoiler alert, there is a little science in it, and music, and some father/son skeletons are exposed.

Woa! - How weird is that?
In that video "What's he building?"
The side shot of the house at 0:08 seconds in is the very image of a dream I had about 2 years ago.
It was an escape both to and from that house with a woman I was with.

Meanwhile a few others were surrounding 'our' house [if you will] trying to find us and we spotted them from a distance as we we're coming back home to it.
But it wasn't 'our' home - just a hide out.

Woa - How weird is that for me to stumble upon this thread and that very image a few years later.

I think I better get up and visit the fridge now...

...or something.

Haha ~ I thought I paid the rent. And I never mow the lawn - I just pluck each blade of grass one by one - less noise that way!

Oh well, put Craigs jacket on me - just as long as it's got long arms, straps and not quite as white as the clothing that the 'two guys' who'll drag me away will be wearing.

Hi,

So, I'm cleaning out some more cassette tapes and making sure they are mp3'd before I chuck them and all that, and in the middle of it all ... I came across one of my dad doing a talk, or lecture ... seems like both ... at some big name university, and it is funny ... specially when he gets to use a 4 letter word ... one of his pet peeves about many of those university circles. Also found one from Roger Waters talking about Radio Kaos, which is very good ... and a couple of more fun things.

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

There's a difference?
(Actual question.)

Radio Kaos, which is very good

That album was rendered unlistenable (to me) by the production. Horrible sounding stuff.
