X3, Melodyne, iLok, sigh

I finally got my media box to upgrade to X3 (I downloaded it a week ago, but as usual, got file errors like I always do from the CW store). Anyway, a quick install needing only the first disk since most of the stuff was already on X2a. I have a few questions about this, but I'l  keep them as separate as I can.

During the install, I noticed the file being installed for Melodyne included iLok files for it. So as soon as it was finished, I went to the control panel and un-installed the programs associated with it.
(Please don't try to convince me that any form of iLok is okay, I absolutely refuse to have anything on my system that uses it or PACE for its purposes.) My questions are;
1. Is there anything else ready to sneak iLok/PACE in X3 that some of you could inform me about?
2. What software is comparable to this Melodyne that doesn't use any form of iLok?
3. Do I really need it anyway?

There is nothing else comparable to Melodyne in the way it handles pitch correction etc. Melodyne also allows a challenge response for authentication. Check the Celemony site to confirm

Sonar and Melodyne do not require a iLok dongle. Not sure what is troubling you about those files, but no actual iLok is involved.

ILok is an optional method of authorisation fro Melodyne. I use it for my version as I do for any of my software that gives the iLok option like iZotope does now.

The problem I've had with iLok/Pace has been that it uses background services to run continually for it. No dongle was required there either, but I find that an unnecessary waste of system services (and intrusive). I'm trying to find out more at Celemony now, but would like to have anything that refers to iLok to be completely removed and am hoping that the C/R uses a different method than the iLok manager. If it uses it then it still is iLok.

Just don't install the iLok drivers during the installation.

iLok is purely optional for if you want to use a lot of different computers and take your license with you. The "normal" challenge/response still gives you two authorizations, e.g. for your desktop and your laptop. If you are planning to get a new computer make sure to unauthorize the old one and you get yoir authorization back to use again.

iLok is just an additional option for those who wish to use it. (You don't have to).

As for the file errors that you "always get" by downloading from CW.... also completely avoidable.  You clearly are not using a download manager.  They are freely available, and any decent one would prevent the file corruptions.

Just don't install the iLok drivers during the installation.

I'm not finding where I can 'uncheck' that option during installation yet.
    More detail?
    Thanks.

Uninstall Melodyne form your pc. Then make sure your pc is on the interweb abnd install Melodyne again. yuo may need to go to the Melodyne website to alter how its verified on your pc and change it from the ilock to a challenge code.

Been a while for this thread but I have a somewhat similar problem. Bought 2 Waves plugins a month ago, no problems. last week I bought Puigtec Eq from Waves. Before I could download it I needed to download Wave Central which replaces Waves License Center. I installed my new Puigtec Eq (also had to reinstall my 2 plugins from a month ago) and found that when I opened a project Melodyne was missing. Melodyne came with my upgrade Sonar to x3 Producer and was upgraded to Melodyne Essentials for $149 by Cakewalk two years ago. Has nothing to do with Waves..?? Need Melodyne back right away. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you mean, "upgraded to Melodyne Editor"?  Essentials is the version that comes bundled.

Not likely related to your Waves issue, but stranger things have happened....

To try and fix it:  Reboot, do a manual reset/recan (important to do both) of your VSTs.

I don't know about Melodyne and Waves together, but I can tell you I have had problems with Waves Central.
The good thing is that Waves help is really top rate. Send them an email or call them and they will work out any problem. At least that has been my experience.

Thanks JonD, tried reboot, manual reset/scan of VST's. Nothing changed in the projects that I have used Melodyne FX regions. Places on tracks where I have Melodyne FX regions, Melodyne is not there.  Also, when I go to Insert>ReWire Device>Melodyne Single Track(which I have never used), Melodyne is greyed out.

On other projects where I have not used Melodyne, I am able to Insert>ReWire Device>Melodyne Single Track, but still can't create an FX region on a track.

Thanks pharohoknaughty, Yes, with Waves Central, it seems I have moved licenses and reinstalled my three Waves plugins far to many times. I did get a message to Waves. This is it.

    Dear Smy,
Waves cannot interfere with the functionality of other Plugins.
Sonar scans only one file named Waveshell.
If you wish to troubleshoot this, you may move the Waveshell from Cakewalk plugins folder and try to reproduce.
Let me know if you need any thing else.
    Best Regards,

I have no idea how to move the Waveshell file from cakewalk plugins folder and reproduce.
