Hi, This is great. Lovely to see what a voice can do that actors/singers from the "wave my hands like an idiot" school, can not do. Excellent. Rock music should learn from this someday! That guy in YES should be the first in line!

Great demonstration of the crossover between DJ and producer, and the skill and musical judgment at work in something which people often just dismiss as punching buttons and twiddling knobs. Anyone who's enjoyed clubbing and/or raving will understand just how much a good DJ can influence your mood, and this guy has it, what an artist.

The home and only "house" of so much electronic music ... you just about have to expect that ... but (honestly) ... this is my biggest complaint in rock music ... not using the synthesizer as an instrument on its own, and using it as a replacement instrument in the song that is being done. Those fat sounds, owe a lot to Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, and so many others out there, it's not funny. Weird ... in two of the novels I have written, one of the "scenes" was a huge evening, and the music was "live", for over an hour plus. I wrote it as a compliment to Schulze, TD and such, but in the end, it was an ode to all of them ... non stop and unafraid of the instrument ... and capable of stretching it and using what it gives you if it surprises you. This, to me, is the "subtlety" that is missing in rock music!

As it's Sunday..  this is my biggest complaint in rock music ... not using the synthesizer as an instrument on its own, and using it as a replacement instrument in the song that is being done. Always liked Billy Currie's synth sounds in Ultravox, very distinctive.

Berlin has always been a big center for electronic music. But it's not the only one by any means. You've had New York, Detroit, Chicago etc.
Way back when Berlin had some amazing instructors in their music schools. Many of them became well known electronic composers (Stockhausen, Housemann --spelling), and people that in many ways were more "music philosophers" than they were musicians themselves, but what came out of their is an insane scene, that is still ALIVE ... as opposed to the other cities in America, where the commercial side of it all has hurt the experimental side of things, and you end up having a music school, like Berklee that can only teach the 4/4 and a jazz touch or 2, instead of concentrating on experimental and possible musics. Chicago, SF and LA, are almost a dead end, both too enthused and controlled by "big name" this or that. Steve Roach came by here ... and only 250 people showed up ... and that ought to tell you how much people know about some other stuff than the top ten. This is where my distaste for top ten and average sounding music comes from! And so you know ... I have electronic stuff going as far back as "The Forbidden Planet" soundtrack, George Harrison, Beaver and Krause, Tonto, Labat ... and there were some outstanding thins ... but there would be way more, if it were not for the sick side of radio and commercial attitudes here. In Europe, with thousands of years of history in the arts ... the appreciation for CREATIVE and new expressions is more valuable than it will ever be in New York. Read Patti Smith's book ... (For Kids) to get a better idea ... Berlin, at least, kept it up and was still going strong, and I knew that the club scene was very live and good in Paris and Germany ... but the issue was that none of that is recorded or sold ... and thus, you miss on finding out about it. Clubs with live music like the one you saw are almost the standard ... and it's not just a beat and a guy playing 5 chords on his guitar!

Just found this very beautiful hypnotic track by Francis Harris with a stunning vocal by Danish singer Gry Bagøien. Lovely minimal arrangement and warm sounding mix. I will definitely have to check out more of both artists.

Funny coincidences... Today, Facebook dug out a picture I took in Madrid in 2011 as a suggested "on this day" memory. I really didn't like Spain much. My own temperament doesn't agree with this type of culture. That's when my wife sent me a picture of our newly adopted dog - which reminded me that I'd been meaning to verify what was the title of that piece of music I'd heard on the radio when we first went to see puppies for adoption a few weeks back. As it turns out, it was a piece by Spanish composer named Manuel de Falla, called The Three Cornered Hat Suite.

There are only three Spaniards I can deal with ... Luis Bunuel. Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso ... all the others were way too self-absorbed for my tastes. Of all the writers, even Cervantes does not do it for me, but many films have been taken from some great novels ... The Fencing Master, The Cradle Song, Ay, Carmela ... and a few other things. I kinda think that the Spanish Civil War kinda destroyed everything, and only a handful made it through in one piece. Bunuel escaped to Mexico, Dali to France and Pablo to the US and other places. Of all the movies, in the past 20 years, you got a director or two that stand out, but Pedro Almodovar has become strange and the stories are getting rather boring and insipid. After "High Heels", and "KiKa", I kinda think that he slipped a little, although the film about the girl in a comma is something else ... the guy that ends up saving her, is the one that loses, and that is the mentality of the Spanish ... there is no poetic justice in Spain. Bunuel's writing continuity with Jean Claude Carriere (specially) is fabulous and very well done ... his Oscar film "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie" goes from mind to mind all the way to the end! And I happen to really like one of his last films, "The Phantom of Liberty", because it is just that. And to see him use paintings as a set is insane ... and he did this several times during his career. The famous picture of Jesus laughing came from "Nazarin". He had a version of the Last Supper that will floor you when it happens. And many other paitings. It's almost fun to look for them. Dali is a bit on the boring side as a person, but his art work speaks for itself well. Pablo is the ultimate irreverent artists, and he didn't care what people thought of his work, and sometimes you need that to continue doing what you see. It's just people being people. Hollywood is not better or different than any of these! You can't put up with the Spanish temperament, but you can with Kardashian temperament? ... hmmmm ... see what I'm saying? ... same thing! The last one is Carlos Saura, who has spent his whole life doing dancing films of the unreal kind. You must see his "Carmen" (modern dance Carmen against old style in this version), and later his incantation of "Tango" ... and these are not even his best ... his Garcia Lorca trilogy is even better, but not available in America with subtitles.

Watching the "Live at the Boerderij" DVD by Mostly Autumn Post Heather Findlay line up, with Olivia sharing lead vocal with hubbie Bryan Josh. Anne-Marie Helder taking a back seat on flute, backing vocals and keys. They are one hell of live band.

There are 3 bonus tracks on the Mostly Autumn DVD. Pro tools crapped out (they should have used a real DAW) so they used the monitor mix. Still sounds pretty good though.
