Speedy SONAR Kingston Update now available

This month we’ve turned our attention to optimizations, increased stability, and fixes. But of course, there are goodies as well—like the new Rapture Session virtual instrument that sells for $29.95 but is free to SONAR members, the “Monitorizer” FX Chain that makes listening on headphones more like listening to monitor speakers, and much more.

For those who are not using CCC on DAW for downloading:
I don't have high speed internet, so I come to office to download.

Can there be any indication like a * mark/ Bold Font in the list at cakewalk.com/My-Account/Product so that we can understand what are the downloads available for this update.

Of course we get info from eZine.

I want to thank the bakers and Craig Anderton again that in the eZine format you include a paragraph / section where you specify what to look for to download should you be downloading manually.  This is very clear and helpful.

Much appreciated!  (Also, the update is appreciated!)

Very interested in firing it up!

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

great update... I was wondering will the AN-879 get updated or analyzing tools something other than the eq because the eq is not used often.

EDIT :   Things have returned to normal (well, except for the cookie issue).

The cakewalk store is broken for me and at least one other person (see the store forum), since yesterday.  No way to buy Platinum.

I've tried both my usual firefox and Internet Explorer to no avail.

Has anyone tried Sylenth1 with this yet? I get incredibly loud white noise in the left channel and heavily distorted playback in the right channel. I tried other VSTs, and those work fine. Very frustrating and unfortunate as I use Sylenth pretty regularly.

Are the posted speed numbers based on W10 or 7? If testing was done on 7, was it only slightly different than10? Thank, Shep

Make sure you installed the updated Anderton Collection. The plug-in should be in the browser Plugins tab Audio FX FX Chain > Anderton Collection > Processors

Re: Speedy SONAR Kingston Update now available 2015/11/25 20:05:41 (permalink)
It updated fine (and no problems with the update itself). Just borked audio on some plugs and my sustain pedal is out of commission...which is enough problems for one day. I've rolled back to the "J" update so I can get this project done (though manually inputting the sustain pedal is going to suck).

In other words: one problem at a time. ;-)

ps: for the time that I had Kingston installed, I definitely saw the improved speed...but it's not worth the cost of a reliably functioning DAW.

Maybe I'm in a mood but it's frustrating when people appear out of no where, with zero other posts, DON'T POST THEIR SYSTEM SPECS in their sig like we repeatedly encourage, and use vague language like "Just borked audio on some plugs" OY! Wastes good peoples time...

FWIW, I've had Iris2 for awhile but hadn't gotten round to installing it.  I just did, to check the crashing issue you posted about elsewhere.  First, I rolled back to "J" land, then installed Iris2 and all the additional content, added Iris2 to a song I'm working with, which has over 100 tracks of audio, synths, kontakt/falcon/omnisphere2 tracks, lot of Albion One... a song already beginning to stress my pretty robust system.

I verified Iris worked fine...at least the vst3 version...I use vst3 whereever possible, and also wanted to test the bakers new vst3 work.   Iris itself was kinda boring but....  I saved the song, and reupdated to "K" land.  Brought up the song with the iris track... played fine.  Added another vst3 instance of iris.... recorded/played back fine...

Don't know if you're using vst3, but from here it works fine.

FWIW, if ur using vst2, try vst3.

I'll go with, "You're in a mood." Thanksgiving seems to do that to people. I also appreciate your rant; it was a nice distraction from the problems I'm having with my borked-out Cakewalk Platinum. As an aside, I saw and borrowed "Borked" from a forum host in another thread/section. Maybe it was the right diction with the wrong use. I'll get busy conjugating and get back to you.

System specs:
i7-2600, 32GB RAM  |  Win10 (x64)  |  GTX 670  |  MOTU Ultralite Mk3  |  Keyboard  |  Mouse  |  Monitor  |  Cup Holder  |  chip crumb recepticle  |  bowl of peanut M&M's  |  Mini York Peppermint Patties in a bowl for clients  |  Acoustic Tile  |  Wires  |  Cables  |  UPS  |  Raid Array |  Mixing Desk  |  Chairs (with AND without casters)  |  Assorted Stationary  |

As for the problems themselves: The only change to the system in question was Kingston. Symptoms: no sustain pedal on any instrument (verified it works with stand-alone plugins and two other DAWs), and IRIS2 just outputs hissing on the left channel and bit-crunched noise in the left channel.

Rolling back to Jamaica Plain solves the issues with noise and plugin instability (since IRIS2 has a 100% failure to load rate for me in Kingston), but the sustain pedal is still MIA. Weirdly, my Imagine-Line plugs (notably Harmor) appear more stable.

Mostly I'm disappointed because for me, Kingston is a mild disaster. Launching a major update before a long weekend when technical support are gone is the most frustrating part.

So, while one system is now "borked" (or "gimped" to use more technical parlance), I have two others to fall back on that don't exhibit the same problems. Just frustrating (and bad timing to try and get support).

What input channel do you assigned for the problematic VSTi's are you by chance using None or Omni

Just try setting it to a specific midi input and the channel your chosen keyboard is transmitting on, see if that helps with the sustain peddle problem.  Just a thought for you to try.

IRIS2 doesn't load under Kingston so I rolled back to JP. The sustain pedal issue is on ALL VST's in Sonar, and it's now a problem in JP too. If I use stand-alone versions on the desktop, the sustain works fine. The sustain also works in other apps and DAWs so it's not a mechanical/transmission/midi issue. *shrug*

Thanks for the idea. I tried a few VST's with channels set to 1, 3, 5, and 7 (because prime numbers need love too). None of them worked.

Probably the strangest thing is that Sonar "input/output activity monitor" on the taskbar lights up when I depress or release the foot pedal. So, the footpedal is working and Sonar's own monitor is seeing it. For some reason SONAR is ignoring it.

Sorry to hear that
Would you be so kind as to report it here http://forum.cakewalk.com/Problem-Reports-f77.aspx

I have just tested Korg M1, Arturia's Wurlizter V, ASS Lounge Lizard session and True Piano's and the sustain off my M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 works as expected.  Set to a none specific midi omni input.

What Keyboard are you using?

I'm working through my instruments...so far (even in JP) IRIS2 is the crankiest. The sustain pedal isn't working for anything though.

The keys are an AKAI MPK88.

I've opened a ticket, but I'll drop something in the forums as you suggest.

"Cakewalk Boss Man"
Some VST3s (example: AIR Loom) had a significant input echo delay

This fix in Kingston appears to have corrected the WSOD I experienced with the Virus TI control VST3 plugin.  The VST2 version seemed to be okay regardless, but the VST3 tanked old projects in a few seconds flat!

Thanks Cakers!

I had the sustain pedal issue and bitcrush noise on some plugins (Addictive Drums 2 namely) when I tried out the update yesterday for a few minutes, but oddly enough while my sustain pedal wasn't working, the pedal I had set to output sostenuto was acting like a sustain pedal while using Lounge Lizard EP-4. Not sure if it's only on that plugin though, since I didn't have a chance to check and test out other vsts before heading to bed.

I don't mind that Kingston is being weird since JP works great on both of my awful systems, but it was nice being able to see how fast Kingston loads things up.

I'm having exactly the same issue with Synthogy's Ivory 2. Guess I'll have to roll back to JP as well.
UPDATE: Rolling back to JP solved the issue.

Re: Speedy SONAR Kingston Update now available 2015/11/26 18:24:52 (permalink)
I just did a quick test of recording midi and it recorded the pedal correct for me.

If it is not recording sustain pedal at all check in the preferences under midi playback and recording to make sure that the to record controller is turned on.

I have not had time to check all my synths yet so I may still find issues.
