Love Platinum so far but please......

New features are great and having fun digging in, but please oh please, can we update the look? Just a little. At least the control bar and highlight colors. For how many years now have we been staring at the simulated 2 color, light blue 1980's calculator display? Make us feel like we're working with a brand new product instead of yet another incremental upgrade. I would really appreciate it. I realize it's bordering on nitpickiness, but we've been staring at the same look for a long, long time.
Thank you.

You must try Panu's Duckbar.   I believe a new version will be available in a couple of weeks...

I like the look. Just my opinion.
Lots of users use Panu's Duckbar which he says will be uodated for sonar 2015 soon. I used it for a while but realized i liked sonar the way it was out of the box better.

+1 to OP. I installed Platinum today (jumped from X1) and I would really appreciate seeing some GUI improvements in terms of colors and contrast. At least give use more options to customize colors of selected/active tracks, clip bacgrounds etc. FX buttons in FX bins are really ugly and look "toyish". What was wrong with X1 look?

I used Duckbat in X1 and created a really darks skin where track strips in console and track view were of same dark color (similar to the color of Control bar). But it took me some time to edit each picture and pack it back to Sonat exe... We need an official solution, easy to setup and use.

I like the way how we can change colors of tracks. But because the resulting color is much brighter than the one I select from palette, I cannot achieve a relly dark skin. I want to have the same black default color of tracks that is now in Track view also in Console. The grey one is really really ugly...

I am going to file a feature request. Please, anyone who wants more color options go and file an official feature request.

Best Regards,
Marek

Ditto. I've played with the Duckbar stuff, but it shouldn't take much to give the native software itself a few more options on the look. So much time is spent improving audio and production features, which is a good thing btw, but it seems like the interface design team is coasting. Think of your favorite car coming out with engine, handling, etc improvements every year, but with the same choice of colors and body style...borrrrring....
Photoshop did a revamp a few years back giving the user a few different darkness levels for the main interface at least, which would be a good place to start. In the color customization, why not add giving the user a choice of highlight colors? Or multiple colors for different sections. How about different font and background colors for the time display, doesn't seem very difficult to implement. My .02 anywho.

Beta out in a few days !!! Thx Panu !!

Folks - you really don't need to do much with it as there are themes already built in (I've used "Yellowstone" since X11, then X2 then X3 with no issues). And there is a backup solution that gets involved if you wish to undo any changes.

I have asked this in a different thread:  Please Cakewalk - just indicate whether you are working on color flexibility?  If you are great!  If not, perhaps we will not have expectations.
THANKS.

I'm all for customization options, but personally I hate it when programs significantly change their looks between versions.

I personally like the the look of current sonar iv always like dark greys and blacks and basically shades of blues tho. Just my opinion :) In the options i believe there was a way to you could customize your tracks and tools bars to difference colors. Any next to your track layers there is obviously the default like 12 colors, but theres an option "other" to bring up a color spectrum and u can make your own colors for ur track layers and audio clips basically if you need more variety.

I would personally like to see better contrast in the control bar lettering, at least.  Please make all the letters white if nothing else, CW.

I'm all for some more customization but please don't change the default for the sake of it. I've never been much for colour change other than maybe some of the highlighting colours.

With FBB on this one. Sonar looks pretty good just like it is. A few changes to make it easier to see a bypassed efx and more vibrant clip color choices would be well received here. Otherwise, it looks like Sonar should look to me.

Sonar looks very much like FL studio mobile interface wise , or maybe the other way around... ( just google fl studio mobile iphone ) I personally like the light yellow/orange for on/active button states instead of the standard light blue everyone is using...

Re: Love Platinum so far but please...... 2015/11/26 02:10:17 (permalink)
IIRC the last SONAR survey didn't include color customization in the response options for the "What improvements do you want to see?" question, so I guess the current look will last for a while.

I personally love the X1-2015 look, except for the colors of the FX Racks introduced this year. Sadly, these colors are also unlikely to change for a while, as we haven't seen the plan appear in the Up Next section even months after many users (47 so far) supported the request for it:

It seems to me that the text in the CB became a little brighter in SONAR 2015. I no longer have X3 and prior versions installed on my system, so I can't compare. But it would be nice if we could customize the color.

Yeah the control bar is pretty ugly...I always liked a certain competitors control bar better this one is a mess...I use it quickly then try to get away from it.

Maybe because you haven't experienced the resizable and lockable modules in SONAR 2015?

I personally find SONAR's CB most beautiful looking among all DAWs. Opinions differ, of course...

It seems to me the means for people to get what they want already exists in the form of Duckbar. It's well-maintained by an actual SONAR user, and has lots of skins if you don't want to make your own. Most importantly, the fact that Panup is doing it means SONAR's dev team can continue doing fixes and additional development...division of labor, and all that.

Hello, Craig!
I don't like idea of mods. Maybe it is solution for somebody, but... I don't know if I 'm doing something wrong, but I get error messages when I try to install Duckbar. It installed somehow anyway, but when I tried to do something, it hangs. Maybe it is possible to make it work, but it is obvious for me that it is big additional complexity level, that is unnecessary for me, if Sonar just could do what it should do. It is so basic and core functionality. I absolutely can't agree. It is obvious that people need more control of colors and GUI. It can't be a question. So customers can expect that Cakewalk do some steps in that direction. But, no. Absolutely nothing. Dead silence.

I highly suspect Cake is MORE than aware and when it hits their priority level, you'll see it happen.  SO MUCH was newly implanted thruout 2015, that I would highly expect color options to occur now soon as well.   Being optimistic...but I truly feel.....in fact, I'd be shocked if it didn't happen by mid 2016.  But we'll see, I guess.

I disagree as actually since X1 they have been REMOVING color options ON PURPOSE (see clip background color).  It was once in the color preferences.. not anymore.
