Sonitus:fx
There are a number of Sonitus:fx effects included in Sonar. For instance, the multi-channel compressor is quite nice. Q: does anyone know what happened to Sonitus, if that ever was a company, or the products? I'd prefer not to rely on legacy DirectX processing. Thanks!

Originally developed by ultrafunk. Purchased by Cakewalk. When Cakewalk was selling the suite, it was delivered in 32bit DirectX and VST formats. A 64bit VST has never been made available. The product is no longer sold at the Cakewalk store.

Yes, they were called Ultrafunk, and in the pre-Sonar days, those FX were not cheap. I know, because I bought the bundle about five minutes before Sonar started bundling it for free.

Thank you for the history; that was really interesting. Some of the sonitus:fx plugs are actually surprisingly good, even today. Thanks again!

Yes, I was using the Reverb today! I think it's easier to tweak a good sound than Breverb.

I agree 100%. I also find the Sonitus compressor works well on bass guitar.

The Sonitus gate is the best. Side chain filters, ducking mode, look ahead. I have not found a better gate. All of them are good. I don't think Cakewalk will stop supporting them. All DAWs include some default plug-ins and these are Cakewalk's defaults.

The UIs could use a tiny bit of refresh to make them scalable, and maybe incorporate in ProChannel as one plugin.

Aren't these now 64bit on Sonar?

The 64bit Sonitus plug-ins bundled with SONAR are DirectX format. To my knowledge the VST format has never been ported to 64bit.

I'm always reaching for the Sonitus Compressor. To me, it does the job and the interface is easily understood. Plus it has external side-chaining ability, which is pretty sweet considering it may have been developed in 1998. I've used the Sonitus Gate as a noise-gate, but wasn't impressed with it. The Blue Tubes gate performed much better in that respect. I should try the Sonitus Gate with an external sidechain. That could be fun. For that purpose, I use Izotope Alloy 2.

That's right, the VST versions which we're sold for a time are 32 bit only.
