Tula-Jane

Tim Wilkinson wrote the song, sang all vocals and played mandolin. I played electric guitars and did the mix.

    Hi, James,

Absolutely beautiful, my friend, you and Tim are really on a roll!

I really love this one, straight from the clean guitar swell intro, the mandolin and accent guitars sound great, and Tim's vocals, harmonies and songwriting just seem to be getting better every time.

Another tasty guitar solo, that fits perfectly for the style, and a fantastic mix that actually sounds like as if you guys are right here in the room with me!

I'm on my third listen, and I do believe that this is my new favorite from Nettlesmith, stellar stuff, James!

    Best Wishes,
    Bob

Originality abounds! Vocals as usual are exemplary. Mix choices work a treat.

My two observations would be, I found the mandolin a tad dry, maybe just a hint more of reverb?

And, when the vocals come in, they are significantly louder than the intro mandolin, so I actually reached for the volume knob to turn it down. I don't know if you could raise the volume of the initial mandolin intro, so it wouldn't jar the listener when the vocals come in?

really great song and great production! Oh, and before I let this go, I'll just say what I usually say on your guys' work - it's great without a bass, but holy smokes that could be a sweet add!

    cheers,
    -Tom

Really, really good stuff here. Melancholy for sure - but a perfectly performed melancholia. Crisp , clean instruments (love the solo) and the vocals suits the lyrics so well. A bit of heartbreak pub-style (not quite sure what this means - but I could see myself sitting in a pub, working on my third Jamesons and then the folk duo in the corner starts playing this. I start blubbering and my pals decide it's time to send me home).

Very nice indeed!!!  This is a beautiful song with excellent performances, lyrics, arrangement, vocals, and instrumentation.  The first couple of minutes reminded me of an old English style song.  The accents by the guitars and the build-up at the end were a perfect complement to the beginning.

    As expected...

Solid performances, as always.   Vocals sounds great, especially the a capella near the end, and the underlying instrumentation fits perfectly.   Nice solo as usual.

Mix-wise I thought the mandolin worked, but I do agree with the Tom that the lead vocal may be a bit loud during the first section - it seems to balance out as the song goes on.
