Re: NI Replika - Anybody crashing with latest Sonar update? 2015/07/05 17:18:29 (permalink) ☄ Helpfulby Doktor Avalanche 2015/07/05 17:25:01
I'm a little late to this game, but I'm posting in the interest of contributing to solving this problem.   I haven't used Replika since I first installed around last Christmas (hey, life happens), but I tried to use this week and it crashes Sonar Platinum (Foxboro) every time, referring me to the fault reporter.   I did research which led me to this thread (a NI thread referred me here) and long story short, I downgraded to Replika 1.2.1 and voila.....everything works again.   I'll just have to remember to ignore the 1.2.2 upgrade in NI Service Center.  Thanks Doktor Avalanche!

Sonar Platinum, Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H, i7 3770, 32Gb RAM, 256Gb 2 x Samsung 840 SSD (OS & Programs, Samples), 2 x 1Tb SATA HDD (Samples, Projects), GeForce GTX560, Delta 1010, Win 7 64 Professional, Roland A-500, Mackie 32-8, SM57, SM58, Studio Projects C1, Rode NT-1A, Yorkville YSM1 Monitors, Guitars, amps, and lots of shiny little boxes.  Oh, and way too many VI's and Libs...

How do you rollback to 1.2.1 if you only have 1.2.2 on the machine? I had my initial 1.2.0 that I installed over 1.2.2 but not sure where to get 1.2.1.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Can somebody do me a favour?

Could somebody open a project with 64 bit NI Replika in Sonar Platinum? Make sure NI service center and CCC are fully up to date first. Event viewer shows MSVCR120.dll error which usually means a reinstall of C++ libraries, however this crash is happening since latest Sonar Platinum. I have tried running Sonar as Administrator/not as Administrator. Windows Update is fully up to date (Windows 8.1).

Just wondering if others can repro or not before I attempt to take any further action.

Thanks...

Yes. I went to load Replika into a track last night and it crashed instantly (Splat Fox x64). I filed a report too. Also up to date on all NI, Win7x64.

Having said that Maschine has a similar C++ issue and other daws don't experience the issue. Hmm.

Yes saw that finally. I have a bad habit of responding too quickly when reading a thread on the bus on the way home from work. I hardly ever do it from a PC but it's just enough of a pain on the phone that I'm tempted to make that mistake.

Ok confirmed, I have rolled back and it works.

NOT A SONAR issue.. Replika 1.2.2 is buggy with Sonar.

I fixed it by.
Full uninstall of Replika.
Install of main Replika app.
https://www.native-instru...cts-serials-downloads/
Add patch for Replika 1.2.1 (avoid 1.2.2!):
https://www.native-instru...pdates/?search=replika
Run NI service and enter serial.
Rescan plugins in Sonar.

Note you might be able to just run the 1.2.1 patch and it might roll back, but I didn't take that path.

Cheers..

That did the trick! Thanks Doc and everyone else who chimed in and helped.

Peace!

It's accurate though, the update breaks mainly Windows computers. The issue is not only to do with Sonar.

I notice with NI there are quite a few Windows specific bugs with their products hanging around (I don't see Mac specific issues), Maschine for instance has had a MIDI Out port bug for years and crashes Sonar when opening projects under certain conditions (related to C++ libraries as well)... I guess their QA is more Mac centric.

Nothing. NI have been very quiet recently (clearly new products on their way). I don't think 1.2.2 has any big advantage over 1.2.1. imho. Cheers.

Downloaded and installed the demo (v1.2.2) today for the first time and it crashed Sonar and made me aware of this thread. It's nearly December. What's NI doing??

Btw, it works fine in Studio One.

I accidentally updated Replika to 1.2.2 yesterday in the big pile of updates NI rolled out and can confirm that upon loading it instantly crashes Splat still.  Time to go downgrade to 1.2.1 again.

I think that it works on other DAWs, so from NI's perspective, it's probably not abandoned, just 'finished'. It's possible (though I would have thought it unlikely) that the bug is in Sonar.

I finally got to bed at 3am this morning after getting around to installing Replika (gotten as a freebie).  At the start of my adventure NI's Service Center said it would update itself, then failed while at the same time destroying its uninstall database.  It then refused to install and Windows failed on uninstalling what was left of it including its entry in the installed programs list.  Took me a while to clean out the registry - only to then hit the 1.2.2 update problem which instantly crashed Sonar.  More time spent figuring out what was going on - trying in different versions of Sonar, uninstalling, reinstalling etc. etc.

I then had the idea to look here to see if anyone had encountered the same problem and see that I'm not alone.

It's a nice delay.

I just figured out that Replika was NI's freebie last Xmas. I haven't used it once, and it became really frustrating looking at that stupid v1.2.2 update in the NI Service Center with no way to hide it (across multiple sessions).

How to hide the update, so you never accidentally install it again?

Uninstall Replika. The update notice goes away! Happy again!

i actually like very much the Replika version that works 1.2.1.  it is often nowadays my go-to delay.  NI says they have "big things" planned for 2016 . . . maybe one of them is fixing their broken Replika

3.5 Ghz AMD 6-Core/16 gigs RAM, Roland Quad-Capture, Win 10, Cakewalk by Bandlab, Komplete 10, z3ta+, Z3TA+ 2, Rapture, Maschine 2.7 (MKI & Jam), Melodyne 4 Studio, Ozone 4, Jam Origin MIDI Guitar 2, Schecter Damien Elite, Fender Sonoran w/TronicalTune Plus installed, etc
go here to hear Wet Dentist (2000-2016 RIP)

Meh... All NI plugs crash Adobe products (at least CS5.5) just from being scanned. The only "solution" is to blacklist them from the scanner so Adobe doesn't see them at all. This one is rather minor in comparison once you realize it exists. I never read the 1.2.2 release notes, but doubt it had any functionality other than "bug fixes" over 1.2.1.

I installed 1.3, inserted it in a project, and it did not crash. So it works on my system.
All the best.

Good to know! I reinstalled the 2104 Xmas Gift v1.2.1, then ran the update. v1.3 works just dandy. Nice little delay. Thanks for the heads-up!

Edit: Perhaps the OP can update the Subject to note the v1.3 working release.
