The confusing Input/Output names SONAR has with my Focusrite 18i8...

Happy Thanksgiving to my Cakewalk family!

I've always found the names in the track Input drop-down menu to be confusing.

I use a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 with 4 inputs at the front and 4 (line only) at the back.

Screenshot showing available inputs in SONAR:

Can someone explain what's going on there?

Like, why is there a Left, Right and Stereo Mic 1, and then it skips Mic 2 and jumps to Left, Right and Stereo Mic 3?

Same with the Line inputs.

You cannot post links with your initial post.

1 Left is input or output 1
1 Right is input or output 2
1 Stereo is the first two inputs or outputs (IOW 1+2)

3 Left is input or output 3
3 Right is input or output 4
3 Stereo is the second two inputs or outputs (IOW 3+4)
and so on

Thanks, Skook. I'll try switching stuff around to see if that's really the case here.

The other thing is... "You cannot post links with your initial post." Why not???

It is part of the anti-spam policy
There is a minimum post count (I believe it is set to 25 now) before links are allowed.

I use the same interface with Sonar -
What scook said!!

By default, Sonar gives you all the inputs as stereo pairs, AND as independent channels ~
That gives you a lot of options to work with!

You'll probably want to spend some time with the Scarlett MixControl app, if you haven't already.
Also, keep in mind that Sonar lets you assign "friendly" names to all your inputs & outputs -
The friendly name will show up once you start working in the track & console views.

Also, take at look at these:
https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/Audio-Hardware-Setup-Guide?audioMake=Focusrite&audioModel=Scarlett+18i8&product=SONAR+Platinum

https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013386/Focusrite-and-PreSonus-Interface-Routing-Setup

The 18i8 is a GREAT interface ~
But I definitely had to spend some time with MixControl and Sonar preferences to get my head around all the routing possibilities!

Thanks for chiming in, Rivers88!

How do you have everything routed (especially for recording)?

Maybe you can share your saved file from the MixControl app.
