Yeah, but it kind of makes sense. The FW-1884 already has power. Why would it need power from the bus? Secondly, maybe without the power connection (via FW) *maybe* it won't send a power request to the bus and therefore not falsely "interrupting" the OS.

We'll see. I should know by Wed as I have Amazon Prime 2 Day shipping.

While the computer is up and running can you power down and power up your FW-1082 mate?

Haven't tried and don't know why you would want/need to do that?

I have my RME & FW-1884 on one power switch. I leave the DAW on 24/7. I only turn on the RME/FW-1884 when I need Pro Audio on the DAW.

Many times when I'm just using the internet or making CD copies of mixed down WAV files I don't need the Interface or Control Surface on.

Again, my main DAW workflow is to be up 24/7. Not typical I know, but you know......

Or, you somehow lose connectivity between the 1082 and the computer, you'd want to power down/up without having to reboot computer? That may not be an everyday occurrence, but it could happen.

Like in the zombie apocalypse?
I leave daw and FW1082 on at the same time and turn them both off when I have/want to.

As they say, diff'rent folks for diff'rent strokes mate.

The time to fire up the computer has always taken longer than to just turn on the RME/FW-1884. Hence why I leave the DAW on 24/7 and only turn on the interface/surface controller hen I need/want them.

If my $10 cable purchase works I'll be as happy a clam in ocean.

I will likely use the tip from tascamforum if the new FW card does not do the trick, Ed. I see the upside to doing it (shutting down certain things while pc is on), even if I have not done so thus far.
Ps. Is it possible to control buses with the FW 1884? If so, how? I cannot see / control them..
All the best.

Not to my knowledge in Native mode. That of course does not mean it can't be done in Mackie mode, I've just never operated in that mode.

It appears the Behringer X-Touch can control buses. Another upside to ultimately upgrading to that controller.

You can control busses!
Change:
TRACKS TO BUSSES
"SET+ BANK>"
BUSSES TO TRACKS
"SET + <BANK"
You have installed the Sonar plugin v1.22; right?

I gotta try that too.

On a sad note the 6pin to 4pin to 4pin to 6 pin technique did nothing for the power on crash of Win 10.

I'm just going to have to alter my "sit down to work" workflow. No biggie.

All will be resolved when I go to X-Touch sometime in 2016.

I will really miss looking at my trusted FW-1884 controller.

On the bright side the X-Touch will have many pretty colors to look at.

I got all giddy when it worked Still waiting for my FW card, and cross my fingers that it "fixes" the issue with off / on while pc is running (I will definetively keep using it either way, as I still usually power everything off at the same time. Might change if power off / on works.).
All the best.

Well, the 6pin/4pin/6pin did not work. I'm going to try one more (semi cheap) solution HERE since I know swapping the port works.

It will add one step to my power on process but I won't have to dig around the back of the FW-1884.

Thanks, Ed. Yes it is. It is this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Syba-Low-Profile-PCIe-1394b-1394a-2B1A-Card-TI-Chipset-Extra-Regular-Bracket-/400825761465?hash=item5d5313beb9:g:rugAAOSwI-BWGxOD

It was quite reasonable as well
It allowed hot swapping, so maybe that helped?

Maybe my card is not truly hot swappable.

The only time I can turn it on (while in Win 10) is after physically swapping the port on the back of the FW-1884 (moving from the last successful booted port to the other port).

Thanks for the insight.
