Cakewalk Pyro 2003 and DirectX 8.1

I recently got a new computer and am attempting to install Cakewalk Pyro on it. The OS is XP with the upgrade 2 package. When I try to install I get the message that I don't have DirectX 8.1 but when I try to download and install that I get the message that 8.1 is for up to Windows 2000 but not XP. When I get the new DirectX 9 it installs but still Pyro won't recognize it and insists on 8.1. Any suggestions or do I have to get a later version of Pyro?

Many thanks. derfrel@comcast.net

Go to the ´patches/updates´ page to download the utility to get round this problem.

HOWEVER! If you, like me, downloaded the product you will have a problem...
The utility asks for a CD of the product (which I don´t have). A bit short-sighted if you ask me.

Am I supposed to burn a CD? Who knows. I have e-mailed Support and look forward to the reply.

I was happy to purchase the latest version but it would appear that because I live in Europe I cannot purchase it. Time to look at alternative software I think!

When you get a reply from tech support about what to do with the downloaded file and the patch can you let me know what they say about it? I've got it on cd but I think it's looking for a perticular file which it can not find in side of the self-extracting exe file that it downloads in.

    Thanks in advance

I have exactly the same problem (ie a downloaded version), and the program asks for the CD !!!!

Let me now what Cakewalk suggest.. (I have just found out my version of Pyro 2003 doesn't run anymore and I was going to re-install, but I was stopped at the first hurdle)

I have also sent a question to Cake Support... we'll see who gets the answer first!

Had a reply from Cakewalk Tech Support... Here you go
If you have previously purchased Pyro via download you can follow the
directions in the "Important Information" email to download the file
again and will receive the new PYRO2003.exe. You may want to rename
it. That should fix the problem.

If this does not work or you don't have that email any longer, please
    follow these instructions:

Click the Windows Start button and select Run. At the prompt type
    REGEDIT and click OK.

Click the + sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then click the one next
to Software, then Microsoft, then DirectX. Now right-click on VERSION
in the right hand Window, choose Modify. Change the Value Data to
4.08.01.0810 click OK and close the registry.

You should now be able to install Cakewalk. In order to change Windows
back to DX9, go through the same steps and type in 4.09.00.0900 for
    the Value.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    So there you go !!
