I worked in retail for a few years back in the early/mid 90's....

If a mistake was made in pricing on a product....we had to honor it.  We would immediately correct the error to avoid further incorrect purchases....but if people were under the impression that an item was a certain price.....we had no choice but to charge them that price.

I won't comment any further, as I'm not trying to argue.....I'm just saying what WE had to do back in the day.  I'm sure you'll do something fair.

I'm OK with crediting Thanksgiving weekend for such a great company as Cakewalk. What bothers me is when rules change midway. I mean, imagine you give a toy to your child, son or daughter and he/she likes it a lot. Then you discover, this toy belongs to your neighbor and he wants it back. Now!
What will you do?
1. Take it from your child by force?
2. Try to negotiate with your neighbor and persuade him to sell/give away that toy?
3. Give it back to your neighbor and buy your child a new toy?
Tough choice!
Hope Cakewalk team will come up with a wise decision that will suit all parties.

When I tried contacting support on Friday, the link said that Support was closed. Other have tried as well.
The forum was actually the only way to maybe get someone's attention at Cake.

Which is why I suggested giving the entire staff the whole black Friday weekend off might need to be re-thought for the future.  This all would have been avoided with one or two folks in the call center Friday.  One of us would have called (I know I would have) hopefully got it straightened out, posted the findings to the forum and not nearly as many folks would have ordered in error.

Unintentional, yet unfortunate.

The 26th was Thanksgiving, that's the day people get to spend with their families. We aren't taking that away from people. There are other ways to ensure this doesn't happen like start the sale sooner. But thanks for your feedback.

I never suggested anyone working Thanksgiving.  Only suggested at least a skeleton crew for Black Friday itself.  I get it and I hope you feel my comments and pressure as what they are intended, reminders that your customer base wants to be able to still go to bat for Cake and Sonar in all aspects.  I'm not simply just trying to be a jackass.

In the optimism for the best case scenario, we can just hope part of the time being taken to resolve the quandary is possibly negotiation with XLN to find a way to honor the deal or offer a meet-in-the-middle alternative for those of us that are affected.

I don't at all. I feel terrible about this and we are trying to resolve it. It was sort of the perfect storm of a sale that started during a holiday and then missing the communication due to the holiday. We'll learn and improve the system. I just hope everyone knows it's not our intention to anger customers. We do appreciate your business.

It is, however, a commonly held myth that a store is required by law to honor a mistaken price.

Many stores will do that as a matter of principle if it's possible to do so, but a printing mistake that lists a 99 cent Macbook could destroy a company if it was required by law to honor it.

Two suggestions if you do find that deal:
1. Buy 2.
2.  Get it shipped overnight.  If they ship it before they catch the mistake, then you're in the clear.

Having already invested in AD2 (and a whole host of other things that are bundled with SPLAT) I would certainly appreciate a better deal than "Here's your $40 back...find another $10 and get yerself an AdPak tomorrow."  I don't need the standard loops and kits.  I don't need the Drum 2 Engine.  Been there, done that, and bought a whole ton of add-ons since then.  It wouldn't that big a deal to eat the difference for those that are already customers who are only looking to expand their libraries.  Just sayin'.

It will all come out in the wash, and unless it really changes tone for the worse badly in the resolution phase (which I don't expect), I'll just be disappointed about it, (or maybe still pleasantly surprised) get over it, (or rejoice) then keep on subscribing, keep buying add-on products from Cake and XLN and continue using Sonar to make music.

Unfortunate is the best way to describe it.

I can see Cakewalk having a tough time with this if XLN Audio won't work with them to hit the price, but I don't see why that price can't be allowed to be honored. Allowing a few extra Adpacks to be released can't cost that much. I doubt there were that many takers. Many people felt it was too good to be true so they didn't buy. I thought it may be true. It was Black Friday. I wasn't taking a chance on missing out on a legit deal. I couldn't get ahold of support. Money back would be okay I guess, but I won't like it. I didn't care for the comment that obviously they didn't mean to do it. There were great deals this weekend I saw Waves Gold for $169. Platinum for $299. A lot of great deals at UAD. Why would I assume the deal at Cakewalk was a mistake?

I think the resolution is pretty easy. A product is advertised for a certain amount of money, that product is delivered for that amount of money. Mistakes are made, responsibility is taken, game over. Considering Cake's relationship with AD perhaps that's where any damage to Cake can be lessened, but honoring a deal, even one that's an error, speaks to the bottom line ethos of a company IMO and builds trust for many years to come.

I'm shocked by some of these posts.  This thread started because it seemed too good to be true.  Is the mistakenly presented deal that important to some of you?

"Wow" is all I can think of to say.  Is it really THAT important to get whatever you can get?

Andrew:  Regardless of the decision you guys make, please refund my transaction.  I don't want to be associated with this.

No biggie for me, Bob. I'll certainly, happily spend my refund or accept the "consolation offer". When I started this thread, I hoped it was true, but assumed it was a mistake. I didn't expect the thread to take off in the various directions that occurred......
While we waited for Cakewalk to respond, imaginations flared/soared/dove etc....... too much coffee or perhaps turkey! LOL

Is it really that shocking that a business would be expected to act like a business? The product is not important (at least not to me) but the principle is. I've been in business many years and have made my share of mistakes in contracts and business deals and always honored those mistakes, again as a matter of principle. In the long run it always pays off because people learn that you say what you mean and you mean what you say.

How would you feel if a spokesperson from Cakewalk said, "We appreciate all of your concerns and generous offers for a refund but when we, as a company make a deal, mistake or not, it's a deal, and we will always honor those deals."

What kind of trust would a response like that garner from this community? For me personally, I would become an even more loyal Cakewalk supporter, not because I got something for nothing, but because I was dealing with a company that stepped up when things got a little bit tough.

Hey, while you are up there on your high horse, do you mind checking the horizon for any other lowlifes that might have an opinion different than yours.  I'd hate for them to sully the name of all the perfect Sonar users.

No one, not one person has been adamant about demanding Cake honor the deal, all have been conciliatory to the possible eventuality of simply a refund.

That they give opinions or past-case scenarios or opined hopes they get what the offer stated does not make them bad persons.

Your comment of disassociation called out every forum poster that did not just say they would prefer a refund.

Well played sir, well played.

Yes, this I am in full agreement on.  One way or another I am buying "Reel Machines" in the next day or two to help on a project that I am working on and I certainly don't want to drop another $39 expecting the refund outcome for it and then be told, "here you go, we're going to honor the original deal."
