Never said I didn't like anonymity, nor did I put down anyone who chose to remain anonymous. I cheered for someone willing to post under his own name which in the internet era takes a certain amount of fortitude. It seems like my admiration for that person's attitude is something of an issue for you, but I'm not really sure why.

Yes, I have directly experienced the kind of thing happening here now, and I'd guess many others here have as well. In my case, a quote was made, a contract was in place and well into the project, further information was uncovered that added significant cost to the effort, which we ultimately ate for longer-term considerations. I'll keep the circumstances, company name(s) and the particulars about the money out of this since it's not really relevant to this discussion. So I feel Andrew's pain, which was my point.

Easy, man, I'm not looking for a fight with you here, nor do I think I've given you cause to find one with me. Lots of companies take a beating on deals for goodwill. Sometimes they do it because they have to and sometimes they do it to position themselves for future advantage. My point was to empathize with the guys at Cakewalk having to deal with the issue. Nowhere did I demand that they fall on their swords to make me happy although I did suggest that if they figured out some way to put some AD products in my Christmas stocking it would make me happy.

And it's true, it would! I'd further guess that any other folks that made this purchase would be happy with that outcome as well.

I have to say that I was less than happy with the whole issue as it unfolded. I had never been involved in Black Friday before and was looking for a real bargain - everyone else in the US seemed to be able to find unbelievable deals and I never did! All I wanted was some new ADpaks and decided to hunt about for the best deal - and found it for £31 at Cakewalk via this thread, although JRR and Audio Deluxe had the deal at around £52.
Since it's been cleared up a little - thanks Andrew - I have bought it at Audio Deluxe. The cost on their site now is (after PayPal conversion) £66 which is up on Black Friday (it seems they have raised the base price but kept a BF discount when you get to the cart) but I missed that deal and just had to bite the bullet.
Bottom line is - yes, there was a screw-up and it has cost me some hard earned pounds but I think lessons have been learned all round. Cakewalk will tighten up with Cleverbridge, moderators will think twice about moving threads which might impinge on Cakewalk and we will all move on. I'm certainly not going to fall out with Cakewalk - I've been a user since way back in the (Twelve Tone) 90's and have always been happy with them.

Thanks for your patience while we worked out the issue. We will be honoring this deal and customers will get the codes at some point today. Due to the U.S. holiday and time differences, it took us a little more than 1 business day to work this out but we wanted to come up with a solution that didn't impact the customer negatively (like a refund). I am going to close this topic once we have fulfilled the orders. Again, I want to remind people that this was an error on Cakewalk's part that unfortunately caused a bigger issue. I apologize for that. Mistakes can happen and our intent the whole time was to work it out so our customers weren't impacted in any way. Because it involved a third party, we also needed explain it to them. Luckily XLN Audio is a great company, and we were able to work it out. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

Absolutely top shelf response.

Now, not only do I have further ties to continue to purchase CW products, but XLN as well.  As stated before, you guys have further cemented my already long term loyalty but have given me an example of customer focused care to use in my conversations with others in the market for a DAW.  I work with a lot of young budding consumers (I take on interns nearly every spring for HS and College projects and most of them come in thinking DAW has to mean Ableton, Logic or PT.)

I have convinced a few over the years that Sonar is their equal in the right hands, and this gives me more ammo to convince them not only that it is a quality professional product but also what a trustworthy company you guys are.  You did not HAVE to do this, but you chose to do it for your customers sake.

Extremely appreciative.

Good Morning,

In a business model where profit trumps everything, I am glad to be a part of organizations (Cakewalk,XLN) that think long term and considers their customers at a high level. It does not escape me that neither company had to do this... AT ALL!.. For that I am grateful, surprised and will continue to be a committed consumer. Thanks

By my perspective, Cakewalk has adressed this honorably and responsibly if not as quickly as I would have liked. I am more convinced of my decision to buy Sonar in the first place, and I'm more convinced of the community value of this forum.

It may have not felt quick to us due to the holiday weekend, but it actually was quite reasonable once they were back to work.  It had barely been 24 hours since they started addressing the issue when they announced a most customer favorable outcome.

I agree with everything stated here - REALLY pleased with how this "came out in the wash" as one poster so wisely advised us.  This will definitely pay dividends for both companies in the future, that, while not immediately quantifiable, will result in deeper loyalty and better business long term.  In the mean time, some us felt no option but to grab Cyber Monday deals for AD2 Custom $83 at AudioDeluxe.  I now have THREE instances of AD2.

Studio One 3.5. SPLAT 64.  Win 7 Pro.  Dell 7010, i7 3770, 3.4 GHz, 16Gb RAM.  Tascam US-122 Mk II.  Lotsa other gadgets.

We are currently working on putting this in people's accounts. You should get an email about it soon but you may see it in there before the email reaches you.

So I learned a TON about music software and Black Friday this weekend but now I need to get a handle on where/how is the best way to SELL software?  Last thing I had in mind before the holidays, but I confirmed on the XLN website that I can transfer the license for my "extra" AD2 Custom.  I'm going to sell it for $70 and include the Metal AdPak.
