Slow Motion Blues
Howdy all - and Merry Christmas. I did this tune as kind of a study in minimalism - less is better. (which I actually found fairly difficult - I found myself always trying to mentally speed my playing up) This is one of the first tunes in years in which I've played everything. I named this one "Slow Motion Blues". Thanks in advance for all who take the time to listen - I sure appreciate. http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=13265539&q=hi&newref=1

Great title! Yeah slow tunes are tough. Sounds great here. I do wonder about the effect on the slide...seems to mess with the intonation a tad... Good stuff!

Good stuff here Mark......I lurve da blues and you did a excellent job on this......mix and all. Not sure if it's intentional or not, but the rhythm guitar? seemed to buzz a bit on certain notes (listening on H-headphones).....it may very well be the distortion on the guitar that slight came across a little harsh......not a biggie. Great tones on the leads and very nice melodic slow blues!!

This is my third time listening to this number. Man, it took me back to some of the great Blues instrumentals that I used to listen to way-back-in-the-day on the John R show on WLAC AM radio ("...way down south in Nashville, Tenn."). Did you ever grab on to the slow Blues feel with this number. I have complimented you before on the touch and phrasing of your guitar playing and you really demonstrate your technique on this number. As some of the old Blues player are want to say -- it's not the number of notes that you play but how you play them. Excellent stuff my friend.

Hi Freddy - good to see you again. I'm practicing hard on the slide thing - it's not that easy for me to play - but I'm starting to get it. Have a great Christmas my friend - and thanks for listening - take care.

Practice works! Good jam, buddy! You are getting a nice sound on that slide. I am working on your song "Slidin' In" so don't give up on me. I dumped one live band and am down to just one now. Not the best musicians but nice guys with average talent and great attitudes which makes it fun! I am also working on Oct.24th. If you keep moving up with your skills you'll have to find a better bass player! :-) You did a good job on the bass for this tune. Godin?

Thanks Warren - it means a lot. That bass is my Ibanez SDGR. I finally got it adjusted so that the strings don't rattle anymore - raised them a bit - who'da thought? ;-D I just played it through some patch on my POD XTLive and then eq'd the crap out of it and limited it a bit. It doesn't sound bad - but nothing like your bass - and your bass playing - can't beat that. Thanks again. Now get me that vocal track to Oct. 24. ;-D

gotta tell you mark, that first riff hooked me. the first measure or two, that's a good sign.
sounds watery, flowing....nice technique.
inspires me to try to write a slow blues, something like this.
i like the slide sound.... it's ringing on the strings, makes it sound like a metal slide....?
the sound of the snare.. it's too bright. takes away from the cool metallic sound of the slide guitar, or rather, is too similar i'd try a much darker snare tone, something very woody, without as much head attack, and fairly dry.
cool tune

hey mark! how ya doing?
really great playing! always enjoyed your guitar work! the mix, IMO, needs some work, or maybe the recording. the bass and one of the guitars are distorting (not in a good way - like digital distortion) and there's some noise recorded on something. lead maybe? your playing is excellent as always! love it!

Sixfinger - I'm a real fan of yours - so thanks - means a lot coming from you. Mesh - yea, thanks - yea - the rhythm guitars had a bit of "fuzz" on it. It's the first time I've tried a slow blues instrumental thing like this - still trying to get the slide guitar thing down. Freddy - thanks again. Warren, thanks partner. daryl - yea - it's strange trying to play a slow tune - I kept unconsciencely trying to speed up - fun to do though. Thanks for taking a listen. gonzo - thanks again - I did change out the snare. beagle - thanks for taking a listen. Yea, I'm sure the mix isn't perfect. But, realistically - I never get more than about 10 or 15 people to listen to one of my tunes - so, it is what it is. Thanks for taking a listen. Take care.

I love this, Mark! Very slinky with a nice slide sound. I couldn't imagine being able to play that slow. LOL. Super job on this tune and production.

I like this. Nice and bluesy. Minimalism, as it pertains to music, is something entirely different though. Great tune!

Maybe minimalism was the wrong word. What I tried to do was create a melody using the fewest amount of notes I was able to. Thanks for listening Guitarpima. Thanks Scottybro - Like I think I said before I found it a bit unnatural to play this slow - seems like we practice so much for speed that when you slow it down - it feels a bit strang. I hope you're doing good my friend.

Dats da stuph Mark. Drum break was kinda odd. I expected a feel change from it but that's ok. The amp noise in the fade was cool.

Smiling. Like ZZ top on qualuudes. I'd say great performances and a really skanky vibe. Fun all around. The bass has some hair on it, kinda distorting. And there's a 60 cycle hz solo in the middle when the breakdown section comes, and at the very end. Speakin' uh breakdowns, if I ever have one, I'd like this song to be the soundtrack! cheers, -Tom

The biggest compliment I can offer is to echo Batsbrew - this makes me want to do a slow blues tune. And I don't do many slow songs.
