catching up

Friends,

Started a new job and scared crapless about the level of responsibilities. Survived one week and back for another round tommorow am, but means a paycheck coming in. Some funds for upgrades that I could not rationalize being without any income.

Blew 12.50 USD on the holiday special for Hideaway Studio Chromatics. Way way worth the deal for a Kontakt library.

https://hideawaystudio.wordpress.com/

Still on the fence over the Reverberate 2 upgrade. Definitely an improvement over ver 1. Clean and smooth. Think they still have the holiday special.

    Uh...

Reverberate back up to the 35 Chinese yen or whatever the standard for an upgrade if you have ver 1. Missed the window.

Will wait til the Christmas or Buddha's birthday sale to reevaluate when the next fire sale is on. 125 yanks for a new license. A bit steep considering less expensive alternatives. That's what's cool, that there are alternatives.

Glad to still see you around John.

Looked at Reverberate. Looks real good. Don't know if I will need another reverb plug. But this one is very interesting.

    Guys,

Thanks for the kind words. Been getting a lot of encouragement from friends and former coworkers that I'm probably not as dumb as I look, and if anyone in old age can pull it together, got a good chance. Haven't killed or permanently damaged anyone yet this week.

    Bass was aking about windy...

Grand cycle of Allah has the hurricane season in the USA southeast in the summer, then they go flat for the winter. The endless cycle has us in the northwest coast go balistic in the winter and flat in the summer. Diagonal dance that has been going on forever. They got some kind of syntax thing where they can't call what happens to us a hurricane. Just a "severe winter storm". The folks in the southeast get all the news coverage for hurricanes and we get nothing of any note until a lot of people die or a major landslide happens.

My car has scrapes and dings from building parts and debris flying through the air in a storm awhile back that clocked 140 mph winds. Reason they said 140 was because that's where the meters red lined and couldn't tell how high the velocity really was. Lawn chairs, garbage cans fly over roofs and become deadly projectiles if they are left out before before a real storm. Here in Tillamook, we are more protected from the winds, but the floods bring everything to a stop. There are cars that have boat propeller scars on the roof.

About music, really impressed by the Chromatics plug from Hideaway. Sent these guys an email a couple years ago about them losing their renegade status. Used to be the libraries were as cheap as a couple dollars. Then the prices creep up. However at over a gig of samples for $12.50, and some really well planned content, it's a no brainer. Some nice synthetic pads and horns in there.

Yup, nice one that Rhodes Kroma emulation.
But man, 140 mph, that's some serious blow.

Yep. Anything not tied down is hazardous. When we have hurricanes down here that's the biggest concern, getting every little thing picked up.

And John, the news may look over the weather up there, but I pay attention. Most of our winter stuff starts up there!!

Still lots of fun going on. Winds down but the water keeps coming. Roads are closed in and out of many places due to floods but also sink holes and the highways crumbling away. Truck got swallowed in one of them and several fatalities in the region. Quite scarry to see this much flooding and angry rivers over their banks.

Sad thing is that these floods never happened a few decades ago until we clear cut mountains of forrest around the rivers. Now nothing to hold it back.

Big thing is the local communities to the west of here are isolated from contact by the roads in and out destroyed. Get to go and volunteer some service work maybe.

    Stay dry everyone...

Interesting how supply and demand works in this good ol' capitalistic economy...Long live the USA...

Visited ground zero of the trapped communities. Families driving their vehicles up to a long parking lot on the side of the road short of deadly sink holes. Then walking around the impass with plastic bags to get food from the only two markets south of the obstruction. They cannot drive to town where everything is wet but business as usual.

Seems prices have radically changed. Went in to the grocery store fully taking advantage of the crisis. Single wilted roma tomatoe $2. They got a fire sale of $1.50 per small potato though, and you can get a less than prime orange for a dollar. You could not afford anything else. Under the conditions, they can't make a case for selling water. Owners happy about the increase in business now that they got everyone hostage.

    What have we become...

No small potatoes. Reminds me of that so-called electrolyte water I once bought in Boston for $5. Made me jump around for a while because I hadn't checked its price. Electrolyte indeed.

They just sell that water to the "euro goomers" that show up on holiday.

Electrolyte water is a bunch of hype, but unfortunately has a hi pressure marketing strategy behind it.

Was however far more inspired by a hi pressure marketing strategy for bottled water that I ran into in the late 1970's.  Better than anything the advertisers have come up with now days, but maybe they should try this.

My job had me running around the communist bloc, East Germany behind the Berlin Wall, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, etc, etc.

Was on a train in East Germany and really dried out thirsty with no obvious source of drinkble water around.

Train stopped at a terminal and there was a drinking fountain right outside my window.

Tried to step off the ramp to get a drink and was impaled with a machine gun in my gut.

Tried to explain I was only wanting a drink of water. The soldier rammed the gun deeper into my ribs. Said if you want water, get back on the train and buy water.

Got back on the train with bruised ribs. Never bought anything though. Just dehydrated away until I reached Yugoslavia and could drink from the local river.

That soldier was Bassdaddy's father, aka BassGranddaddy! Yet I forgive his Eastern euro roots and dehydrating behavior, as he originates from the land of Johann Sebastian Bach.
I once visited all these little German towns and villages where Bach lived, from Eisenach to Köthen. Even Weimar, so close to Buchenwald. When I got to Leipzig, I knew I had to forgive them in a way. They gave me Bach. No other people ever came near.

Now, isn't it about time you gave your 2 week notice?

    Come on...you know you waaannaa!

I mean, sure you could buy some more VSTs, etc. but then when will you find the time and energy to do any recording?

    Thanks Jim,

Wanted to give my 2 weeks notice about 5 minutes after I walked onto the killing floor. Not a normal environment, but in a good way.

Demand is way beyond what's left of my brain to handle. Survived week 3 and haven't killed or permanently damaged anyone yet (as far as I know...).

Then the balance...  Can now buy plugs again, but working full time and no time to practice. Catch 22 thing.

Hope you and your loved ones are safe, dry, warm, at peace going into this holiday season.

Love to all of you guys,
