Track Templates (New User)

Hello everyone! I purchased Sonar Platinum a day or two ago and honestly think it is the best purchase I've ever made. One idea that I keep pondering is if you can download and upload track templates. Like a high quality mix for lazy people or people who are new and want to plug in and get a pro sound without having to check every plugin on every cymbal, tom, guitar, vocal, etc. to see what sounds the best. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the process and think that part of the learning curve is crucial, but to a new user it seems like that would be a fast way to get them started. You could have a template for different genres that would only require tracking direct in and dialing in the settings on each vst to match your set up. It seems like all you would have to do is take a great sounding session, delete the composition, save a copy of the empty session, and then upload the room as a template. Would that work? Does this already exist and if so, where can I find some?

If I understand you correctly , yes track templates already exist. Top of pro channel bin, where it says untitled you have folders to load and save, with some presets already in there.

As far as a high quality mix for lazy people, there is no template or plugin for that, but the presets in the track template as well as the vst's would be a great starting point in helping a lazy person learn how to tweak to taste.

Welcome to the Forum. You made a sound decision in getting Platinum.

If you have installed all the stuff that comes with Platinum you will also have what are called plugin chains that have been created by CW and Craig Anderton to do some rather cool things. These will do various things and you will need to try them out to see their usefulness.  These are in two places the Pro Channel has them and the FX bin has them. Each type has different purposes. I would download all the eZines for all the updates and read though them to see what you have to work with. Its a lot believe me. Here is the Kingston update eZine. http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Rolling-Updates#start

You will notice that each month has its own eZine DL them all.

Have fun with Sonar Platinum and come to the forum often.  If you have questions we have answers.

I find it amusing that people think that everything recorded will need some sort of additional processing? That's funny....You want a pro sounding recording? learn how to record at source properly. You'll never need another gadget again.

I don't recall anyone else saying that before. Yet I find it absolutely true. Sort of refreshing too.

I had thrown out "don't spend 4 hours editing what you can retrack in 10 minutes" a long time ago. One of those lessons learned (and downsides) of a DAW.

For the OP, in addition to existing track templates (you can right click in the left pane of the track view) and "Insert Track from Template->" there are also project templates included (listed in "File->New..." and you can reassign the default one in that popup). There are quite a few of them, and a CW blog post that had more (I am not sure if these came with Platinum or not).

As you get things set to your liking, you can also save track/project templates as well.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.
