Land At Last

This all started with a track from Larry Hansen. I know some of you know Larry, one heckuva great acoustic guitarist and a nice guy to boot.
The part he sent me was basically a nice lead part at he beginning and more of a backing part after the big  change. I added some basic fiddle played real. As you'll hear I added more in the second half to Larrys excellent playing. I also added additional supporting guitar parts.

Really nice Tim! If it were me (ha ha), I'd add some orchestral stuff to make it more, well, cinematic. Seems like a good candidate for some flowing strings and stuff...

Ah, there's me old pal Larry, that unmistakeable acoustic tone. Very nice collab chaps. I preferred the lilting waltz of the second section section to the diddly-dee opening but it all holds together as a concept.

lovely Tim and Larry - I could see myself sat on the harbour wall in Cornwall - probably eating fish and chips - sigh, I miss England.
Definitely a nautical feel and you both compliment each other's styles perfectly

Very nice indeed.  It has the lilt of an old-timey sea shanty (at least in the beginning).  Interesting change up in the middle.  Is that the arrival to land?  Excellent playing and production --- and  ---- just a very nice song!

    kakku- Thanks!

Dan- I took your advice and added a more ethereal under pinning. I changed the intro and outro. I also added a bridge part made of accordion and lyre. Hope this is better!

    Wookie- Thank you!

James- Yes it is quite a contrast. Hopefully the changed bridge will make it more seamless.

    Mark- Thank you!

Daryl- Now I'm hungry :) Thanks for commenting. I hope that one day I can see England.

FreddyJ- Yes I think this was Larry's idea. He had wanted to have a raft for his pic...like a castaway who found land. He did use a raft on his soundcloud site. I think it's a great Idea but I couldn't find a pic I liked. Thanks!

Great work.    I think you need a Irish Low Whistle in there as well:)   Just picked this up from Llya Efomov for some possible future project.   I think it might add some more depth and breadth/dimension to the track.

Thanks Marko999. That's a very nice whistle there. I have a few whistles but nothing that sounds quite like that.

Very nice! Always loved Larry's playing. Which guitars did you play? The harp part was a cool surprise, as was the synth.

I played backup in the first half of the song on my Martin acoustic with Larry playing his Taylor. Those Taylors are designed to project...my Martin has a nice sound but it can't project like that Taylor, so I had a challenge to try and keep a balance there. In addition Larry used some great punchy pre amps. Even so, I had to use a dynamic EQ to keep my low mids being too loud. The track Larry sent already had a great balance to it.

In the second half I played the leads because Larry played more into his bass ranges. If you listen you can hear that my guitar doesn't quite have the mojo that his does :)

I also played some bouzouki for rhythm but I kept it low in this mix or it would have been over bearing.

Hello Sir, The thing I like most about this song is the way it feels alive.

That change at 2:00 is very interesting.

I can't disagree with what anyone else has said, I wish you could get the Poozies to sing on this, that would be cool.

The fade out at the end is nice.

Good playing, I liked it.  I felt like I was at a local pub, in a dark corner, dreaming of far away truths.

Another nice one Tim!    Larry's track is played well as expected and sounds so "transparent.  But what you've added suits it perfectly IMO.   I really liked the transition and how it gave a calming feel, and then the reprise at the end.  The live violin was a nice touch too!  As was that last chord...
