Help With Missing Sound Samples
Hey everyone, I fear I may have done something very stupid, so I thought I would turn to the great people of this forum for some help and insight. I have Sonar Platinum and updated to Kingston over the weekend. All went fine. When all of my downloads were finished, I wanted to perform a bit of housekeeping on my hard drives. I went into the settings of CCC and made changes to two things...where the future update files will be downloaded to (from C to G).....and where the multi-samples are stored for Rapture Pro and Session (from C to H). Then I proceeded to copy all of the folders and files for Rapture Pro and Session from my C drive to my H drive. Everything went fine. However, I then proceeded to pull up both Rapture Pro and Session to make sure they were working properly after all of that, but I'm finding that I have several items from each that are just silent when you try to play them. Like no sound samples at all. But there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to which ones. I might have 8 in a row that are fine and then 1 with no sound and then I may have 3 which are fine and then 10 with no sound. Are the sound samples fragmented to different locations where I may have missed some and not brought them all over to the new drive?? Thanks for your help.

You might be able to figure it out be turning on logging and review the logs for the failing programs. The option to turn logging in Rapture Session, click the button in the upper right. For Rapture Pro use the Options menu. The default location for the logs is" C:\Cakewalk content\Rapture Pro\Logs."

Thanks Scook. I'll give that a try when I get home tonight. It would be great if each of the soft synths had an option for setting the data path right from within the synth itself. I use BFD3 and it has a section where you can choose and set all of that info. I guess I thought the Rapture synths would have a similar option as well. Of course, I realized they do not AFTER I had moved things around. It is puzzling to me though, why it's only SOME of the samples and not ALL of them.

This is why I recommended the log. There not enough information in the posts so far to suggest anything else.

Is there a refresh database F5 option built in to these? It has been a while, but I recall opening up the Dim Pro and Rapture browsers and hitting F5 to tell each synth to rebuild/.refresh its database. Just wondering if that had been tried, and if so did it make any difference. Bob Bone

F5 in DPro and Rapture rebuilds the program index, programs.lst. The program index is the list used by the program browser. No validation of the programs occurs during this process. I do not believe there is a tool provided which inspects the programs and validates the sample paths other than the synth itself.

OK, this is what the log says for the very first sound available to choose (Atmospheric/80s Poly Pad 1)........ Program: G:\Cakewalk Content\Rapture Pro\Programs\Rapture Pro\Atmospheric\80s Poly Pad 1.prog The following samples could not be loaded: Element 1: C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data\Rapture Pro\Multisamples\EDP Gnat Special\Gnat Enhance.sfz Element 2: C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data\Rapture Pro\Multisamples\EDP Gnat Special\Gnat Enhance 2.sfz Element 3: c:\cakewalk content\cakewalk sample data\rapture pro\multisamples\wavetable collection 1\cello_3.wav Element 4: C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data\Rapture Pro\Multisamples\Compressed Strings\Compressed Strings.sfz So it looks like it knows that it needs to be pulling the program material from the G drive (which is correct) But also like it wants to pull the samples from the C drive (which is incorrect - it should be G as well). Any ideas on how I can fix this? I'm stumped. Thanks

I also found that the VST Plug-in properties path for Rapture Session is.... c:\program files\common files\VST3\Rapture Session\RaptureSession_64.vst3 I don't know if that makes any difference or not, but just thought I would put it out there. Thanks

Hey Scook. Well, that's kind of part of the problem...other than changing the path in the CCC, I can't really find a way to tell RPro directly to refer to the new path. I feel that if there was a way to - that would probably solve the issue. Or at least help to.

In the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software there are two enries used by RPro/Session.
- The "Cakewalk Content" path is stored in ContentDir. This value is used by most Cakewalk Software including Rapture Pro/Session. For Rapture Pro/Session this path is used to define where the "Rapture Pro" folder is located. This folder contains a variety of folders and files including the Programs, EG, SG and Logs. This value can be set in the Command Center.
- The "Sample Data" path is stored in SampleDataDir. This value is used to hold the path to the folder holding the Multisample data. So far, I believe this is only used by RPro/Session. This is set in the RPro/Session installer.
In addition to these entries, there is an entry for each synth HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Rapture Pro and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Rapture Session which among other things contain information about legacy Multsample paths.

OK, I know this will sound stupid, but once I get to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software...ContentDir and SampleDataDir don't exist under that heading. I'm sorry to be such a pain Scook, but am I missing something?

I did not think those entries were optional. Here is what they look like on my PC Again, there can only be one ContentDir which is used for SONAR and Rapture Pro\Session so I guess this has already been changed in the Command Center and all the applications with the exception of Rapture Pro\Session which rely on this folder work correctly.

Hey Scook, Sorry, I was out of town for a couple of days. OK, I see it now. My ContentDir points to my G drive, but the SampleDataDir still points to the C drive. So what's the best way for me to get everything moved to the same drive? Or don't I want to do that? Again, I apologize if my knowledge on this is lacking. It's only recently that I've taken to using these synths in the music I make. So thank you for your time and patience.

Since you have already move the data SampleDataDir was pointing to, fix the registry entry to point to the new location. If you kept the "Cakewalk Content" directory structure and moved the entire thing over to G: the new SampleDataDir value be "G:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data" If the multisamples were not kept in "Cakewalk Content" then set SampleDataDir to the path holding the "Rapture Pro" multisamples folder. Do not include the "Rapture Pro" folder in the path, it must be the path containing the folder.
