Auto Save Issue

I've had this Auto Save issue off and on for some time. While I'm trying to comp or edit, say in Melodyne, the auto save is constantly saving! I have it set to 50 changes or five minutes but it saves every two to three changes! What a royal pain in the butt! What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks for any suggestions, help or ideas.

Paul

I don't know if you are doing anything wrong. I just had a similar issue. I had Rapture or Dim Pro open and every time I changed a preset the project would save.  I have not noticed this before. Maybe it is a new bug?
I am going to try to reproduce it to see if it is.

I've not kept track of it but this has happened off and on for quite some time.

    HI Paul.

I've just tried it here and it seems to be ok.
But it is only a very small project so the saving *might* be happening too quickly to even register that a save has happened.
I'll try it on a bigger project when I power up my DAW - currently on laptop.

Thanks Colin.  I don't know if it's doing it all the time or not.  I especially notice it when, for example, I'm editing in Melodyne.  I move a blob or two and then Melodyne hangs while Sonar Auto Saves.  I move a few more blobs and once again, I'm waiting on Sonar to Auto Save.  So much for my setting of "50" changes!  I made that setting years ago to solve this problem.  I can't remember if it actually did though.  I do know it's not specific to Kingston.

When I get back to Sonar, I'll try and pay attention to when it's actually happening.  BTW, I'm back on JP.

Maybe change it from number of changes to number of minutes?

I guess I took it to mean, (in my case), 50 changes or 5 minutes which ever comes first.  Is that not the way you read it?

I've had this problem in August and posted about it but no one responded.  (I am still quite hurt.)

Like you, I tried setting the options to save very rarely but it still seemed to save every 2 or 3 changes or every 20 or 30 seconds.  It was totally annoying, interrupted work flow repeatedly and led to some crashes. It seems resolved now.  I have no idea why.

I had the same issue on Saturday with a project, thought I was losing my mind...
I was comping together a vocal and EVERY move I made I got the little "I'm saving now" whirl.
Ran the new update today, will have to check that project out again.

Auto-save every N changes is totally unusable, because it seems that turn of plug-in's knob can produce dozens of "changes". So this option needs rethinking from software design point of view, or it just can't be used. Auto-save every N minutes is more usable, but it also has a problem. It would save even if you make one smallest change in this time interval, and it is not always desired behavior I believe. So couple of more smart auto-save options must be added to make it work much better.

For this reason, amongst others, I never use auto save, but Control & S has become a reflex action for many years.

I use Save As more often than just Save, but I use auto-save every 7 minutes also, saving 7 versions. 7 minutes is not long enough to forget what i did. But it needs improving obviously. And also it would be good to add auto-versioning option when saving.

There should be an option to auto-save on stop. The current options just don't work for me either. So I Cntrl-S obsessively. The versions feature has been helpful, but I had to increase the #of versions to keep because I would have 7 versions essentially identical.

You remind me another issue I have sometimes, but I don't don't know how to solve it. Sometimes I have loop playing repetitively for long time, I do some changes in this time, and if I forget to save and it crashes, data is lost, because auto-save don't save while playing. Maybe there could be some reminder that project is not saved for some time.

This happens when you use audiosnap and creat transients.   I reported this ages ago and go nothing back.   I also do what was suggested above to some succes 10 min 200 chgs but it only helps so much.  When it get really bad I turn of autosave and make sure I save constantly on my own.  Did you enable audiosnap in your project?

Sonar Platinum, RME UFX, UAD 2, Waves, Soundtoys, Fronteir Alphatrack, X-Touch as Contl Srfc,  , Console 1, Sweetwater Creation Station Quad Core Win 8.1, Mackie 824, KRK RP5, AKG 240 MKII, Samson C-Control, Sennheiser, Blue,  AKG, RODE,  UA, Grace, Focusrite, Audient, Midas, ART

I rarely use audiosnap anymore. After comp editing clips, if I still have timing issues I find Melodyne editor to be more intuitive.
Both of these features cause autosave to do its thing constantly. Unless the values are set high. Which will inevitably lead to data loss.
So I turn autosave off and use Cntrl-s after EVERY edit. Sometimes twice, maybe five times.
And every time I take a break, I save copy as... to a big usb drive.

Thanks for posting guys.  I had thought of shutting the Auto Save off and now that I see others are doing it I might too.  If nothing else, when I'm in Melodyne.
