Can I use Drum Replacer on non drum track? ((Never mind it's broken))
I have a tune with a very percussive acoustic guitar strum. I thought it would be fun to try and reinforce that percussive feel with drum replacer. For some reason I can't activate drum replacer or any of the region effects on this track. Any ideas?

Audio snap? Bounce down to a new track and use the region fx there..

I know this sounds nerdy but you can record an audio track of you performing the bass drum and snare part VOCALLY in to a mic. Set the filters and Drum Replacer should respond. You can even do the hihat, toms, and cymbals the same way on different tracks to build a kit! You just have to make sure that each part you vocalize is in a different frequency range so that Drum Replacer can easily distinguish the part. I have not tried this but I am told that it works pretty well.

Sadly I've found out that my region effects are not working. I loaded up a couple other tracks to try them out and found that sometimes it works but usually it doesn't. For example, it didn't work on the kick or snare but it did work on the toms. I tried to reinstall but it made no difference. One problem has uncovered a bigger problem. I don't normally use region effects so I don't know when they got messed up. At this point I'll go without rather than try and troubleshoot the system. Thanks guys.

Hi, Ampy... To the original query... yes you can totally use Drum Replacer to snag transients from any wave file and then create a percussive file based on that (AND use any sound you want to be triggered by the transients detected in DR). BUT since you are having some kind of issue with your region effects... and even though you don't want to troubleshoot... I'm gonna offer a couple suggestions anyway. Obvious... make sure you select the CLIP (and only a single clip) you want to apply your region FX to. These need to process the waveform. You may want to slice up the clip into smaller bits to make the process easier on your system (the longer the clip is the more processing needs to happen so doing it in chunks can help keep your computer from going haywire... IF that is the problem). DON'T select the track (because it will select ALL clips in the track and therefore the Region FX will try to process ALL those clips... AFAIK). The other thing if that isn't the problem would be to uninstall and reinstall the Region FX programs causing you issues. Drum Replacer is a separate installer from the main Sonar package and IIRC there was actually an update to it so maybe you are on the older version. Melodyne Essentials is also a separate install. The only other region FX you would have (AFAIK) would be V-Vocal which would require a custom install from a previous Sonar bundle to get at that effect on its own. The Drum Replacer download will be in your account and available as a separate download if you want (no need for the CCC). Not sure how you would uninstall it. The Melodyne Essentials download needs to be obtained from the Melodyne site (and registered through them). Of course Cake support could give more detailed info. Cheers. Edit: Sorry... I forgot about Vocalsync (another Region FX). I think that is a separate download as well and the "apply to single clips" and "smaller clips are better" concept still applies... except for that tool you need to select a guide track and the track to be adjusted.

Thanks Beeps, I did try the steps you provided and there was no joy. I think this is a tech support issue because it is transient (pun intended). As I said earlier I tried it on the kick and snare in a project and it won't work, but it did work on the tom track. There's no logic in it. What I did notice is that when one region effect works they all work. I've tried it on small regions and an entire track with the same non-result. I'll call Boston on Monday.

That is indeed wacky. Longshot but by any chance have the misbehaving tracks been converted into Groove Clips (intentional or accidentally)? IDK how GC's respond to Region FX processing but I'd imagine probably not well. Other than that the fact a tom track would work (which might be less populated with transients than something like a steady snare, kick or acoustic guit track) than those other tracks then maybe it's just the Region FX getting overwhelmed by the transients. I did mention carving up the clips into smaller bits to help though so if you tried that already that is again another wild guess (and if you haven't maybe check it out... however it should not be screwing up so bad on a half decent system). I'm mostly bringing that angle up because it may be a useful data point for the Baker support dude to explore. Like maybe there is some kind of buffer/cache/RAM type issue preventing transient dense clips from getting processed properly. Total... wild... guesses. Good luck. Cheers!!!
