Star Wars VII (no spoilers)
I saw Star Wars VII yesterday...has anyone else saw it yet? I remember going to see the original in 1977, and here are in almost 2016. This one (while not perfect) is a lot better the the last three.

I detest 3D movies. I can never get the right adjustment using my vision glasses and without them its all a blur.

Do you have large glasses?, I have pretty small ones so maybe that is why I like it.

I probably won't see it until next month, maybe not until February. Until then I'll just have to plug my ears and sing la-la-la-la while others discuss it. It's this way for all popular movies. I MUST have an unobstructed view and be in the audio sweet spot. That means there are a total of three seats in my local multiplex that are suitable viewing/listening locations. If I can't get one of them, I won't bother. I also hate noisy audiences, whiny children, long lines and crowds in general. Luckily, my first-call movie companion, my 14-year-old grandson, feels the same way.

Oh, it is good. We may go see it again today. I thought the look and feel of it was new and fresh. The acting and dialog was far better than the last few. Not too much cgi, but still more than I would have liked. It's pretty hard to make a modern looking Sci-fi movie without cgi. There are plenty of old school effects thrown in too. I can't talk about the things I didn't like without...I'll stop.

My roommate went on Thursday (at 1:30am, so technically Friday I guess). He said it was well worth seeing and much better than the last three - far more like the first three.

I'm going to give it a miss. I lost all interest in Star Wars at Return Of The Jedi. Doesn't excite me at all and I'm not a fan of modern CGI. I loved the first two though. It's amazing, I have a very clear memory of going to see Star Wars at the movies when it first came out (1977?), I remember waiting in this huge line which stretched around the block and the whole movie was just burned in my memory from the first viewing. But when I think about it, I was only 4 years old! Hard to believe that a toddler could follow a sci-fi plot, but I was completely and utterly absorbed in it. I remember yelling "YAY!" when they got their medals at the end, and being terrified of Darth Vader. I also have very clear memories of seeing King Kong in 1976 (the one with Jessica Lange and Jeff Bridges). Three years old and boy, did I love that gorilla. I cried my eyes out when he died at the end and people in the movie theater were coming over to give me candy.

If you liked the first two, then this is the one you need to see. The cgi isn't over done like most movies these days.

I wouldn't ruin it for people. I'm well trained by my daughter who takes her syfy seriously. We went to Dallas comic con last May and went to Carrie Fisher's panel, and later saw her out shopping in the show. It was pretty cool. We are going to the next Dallas Comic Con in June. It was a blast. http://fanexpodallas.com/

also-we have Platinum Class viewing at home-lazy boy, high def tv,blu-ray and 5.1 sound, plus you can drink, smoke and pause when the beer hits the bladder. it`s not the same as a theatre of course but once you factor in the travel(35k),cost of tickets, the stench of popcorn and as phones are not banned here in cinema`s yet I am happy to wait 3 months and watch it in comfort. or maybe I have just turned into a curmudgeon?? cheers tony

We have a 21 and over theater about an hour or so from here. Went for the first time a few weeks ago. Awesome experience as movie theaters go.

I actually liked the prequels. People tend to dismiss I-II-III, but if we're objective, the old trilogy had its fair share of poor acting and annoying, childish characters and all. Not to mention that Luke is as bland and uninteresting a hero as they come... On the other hand, I can't seem to care for the new movie. To me, Star Wars was about Anakin/Darth Vader. And that chapter is closed. I don't feel a need for more Star Wars in my life. Plus, I don't like JarJar Abrams and have yet to forgive him for what he's done to Star Trek (though I guess that his approach is actually well suited for Star Wars type of movies).

Saw a great review by Mark Kermode (extremely hard-to-please UK film critic), so that bodes well.

I just think it's amazing that there were three trilogies (i.e., nine movies) designed from the very beginning (which is why the first movie we all saw was called "Chapter 4: A New Hope") and that we're FINALLY starting on the third trilogy. I wonder if Lucas will live long enough to see all three finished?

Lucas isn't involved anymore. In fact, he submitted a proposed story outline for Episode 7 and Disney turned it down. I guess they wondered what the hell did he know about the Star Wars universe? Rain: dude, you're going to lose your nerd credentials talking like that. Star Trek? Really?
