Dark Storm
Hey Guys, I'd like to wish you all a very merry xmas. Over the past few years this place has become home to me, and quite a few of you have become friends. It's been a tough year for me musically and I've not been either on here as much as I would like or in fact writing/producing music. Now that I've got some time off, I'm looking forward to hearing your music and getting involved with some comments as well. This is the newest tune of mine. I'm after feedback on composing and production. For this piece I wanted to write a certain theme, I'm not going to mention names as I'm hoping you can hear that in the music. I give you Dark Storm... https://soundcloud.com/russ-white/dark-storm

Russ, Well done, very interesting throughout. The orchestration is spot on and sounds exceptionally professional. Would be interested to know what sample libraries you are using on this song. As for the theme, very simple to guess that one.... I won't give it away other than to say the first movie was released in 1962. Regards

I know the feeling about finding the time. My music production in the last month or so has been poor due to doing exams for work. Listening to the tune it is very nicely orchestrated, especially when the shreddage guitar kicks in. Listening to these on my KRK's I don't seem to be getting any low end growl from the strings. This is only my personal opinion so please do not take it as a criticism, as I really enjoyed the listen. I would be interested to know what sample libraries you used as the arrangement sounding very convincing. Regards Adrian

Nice composition, from the opening flute and harp, then the build into the horns and the cellos, then at 1:32 the drums kick in, I'm thinking...wait, the arpeggiator...nice...the strings at 3:00 are awesome. I think you could easily continue this piece for another 2 minutes without it becoming stale. I would revisit some of the opening parts and maybe blend them with some of the latter parts. Epic music in the sense that Hollywood could easily use this in a movie. The picture of the mountain lends itself to imagining a song of adventure and conquest, or renewal. Production sounds good to me on my headphones Peace Jesse Q Screed

First impression - it sounds great. Like all the movements. The quiet part after the build is my favorite like it is after the storm. Maybe some damage happened. Beautiful.

I enjoyed that Russ, thanks for sharing.

sounds like a spy movie when it kicks in.... I think I'd give a bit more weight to the guitar in the heavy parts. Good job!!

Nothing for me to comment that's any different from others -- wonderful mix...just the way I like to hear 'em. Nice tasteful use of reverb also. The various instruments jelled in a pleasing way making the entire work pleasing to the ears. Well done, indeed. Allan

Cirque du Soleil would love this, and that is a huuuge compliment in my book. You might have heard some of the music that is used for their productions, and your composition is right up their street. Excellent use of elements and movement. Mix has no problems that I noticed. One observation, I wanted a little more of the guitar action, that's definitely the climax but it seems to come and go all to soon. Just my .02 bitcoins. really nice job! cheers, -Tom

Just echoing the above - another very nice composition, arrangement and mix. Things move along nicely all the way through the ups and downs. I would also like to hear a little more "oomph" in the middle section, with a little more guitar action as Tom mentioned and/or a bigger percussion section (more tympani!). Either way though it just sounds nice. The end section in particular matched up well with the image you chose.

Now this is a very interesting production. Very nice composition. Really enjoyed listening to your work. I think all of the four food groups were present in this production.

Mark - Thanks for the feedback, It's good to learn that my mix works for you. Yup 1962 indeed :) Antti - Piano shredding, not heard that before. Thanks for lending me your ears. Adrian - I found it quite heard to bring through the grow of the low string, there's a lot going on. The whole track is done with EastWest Hollywood Orchestra Gold. The drums are Eastwest ProDrummer. Thanks for stopping by. Dan- Many thanks for listening and the feedback. Jesse - The theme was james bond high time to kill, which is set in the Himalayas. Please that my piece worked for you as well. Jimmy - Thanks for your words, looks like my vision made it's way to your thoughts. Wookers - Thanks once again for stopping by and giving me your views. Tom - Hmm, Gooding thinking, I'll give that a go, make them a bit more thrashy! Allan - Is good to hear that my mix is working for many people. also thanks for the views on my composition. Tom - I'll check out Cirque du Soleil. Really appreciate your time and feedback. I did want to try out some guitar parts, however my soundcard just died so I left it with midi guitar for now. Steve - A few have mention adding more balls to the guitars, I'll give it a go! :) Once again thanks for your time and kind works. James - I'm also pleased with how this turned out. Thanks go out to you as well. :) Thanks again everyone that listened and gave me your spill on my work. :):)
