Audio device drivers unchecked by Sonar

Hi all,

I am using a Beringer XR18 as the USB interface with SONAR X1 LE to simultanely live record 16 channels (8 ASIO input drivers).
Everything worked like a charm.

Since one of the last reboots (with no known changes) of the latptop I can only use 4 input drivers in the audio device settings at the same time.
That means :
  • ALL drivers/channels are shown in the audio/device section (so the driver should work)
  • I can check all the 8 comboboxes in the list I need (they are not grayed out)
  • when I apply the settings the dialog disappears for a short moment and comes back
  • but now in the device list only the first 4 devices stayed checked, the subsequent (from the 5th) have been unchecked by Sonar

I already re-installed the Beringer drivers several times and reset the Sonar audio settings - the same behaviour ....

I'm absolutely perplexed, any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Gerhard

Whenever I have something totally weird like that happen I roll back to the last rollback point.  Usually that magically restores everything so I'm smiling...

Will you please check Windows Recording Devices & Playback devices once?
I am not sure as I don't have this Audio Device.

8 Inputs in Sonar usually show up as 4 pairs.

    Behringer 1 Left
    Behringer 1 Right
    Behringer 1 Stereo
    Behringer 3 Left
    Behringer 3 Right
    Behringer 3 Stereo

Only odd numbered ones show up for both inputs and outputs. This is a Windows naming convention.

    Hi,

thanks for the answers so far, but - sorry - there was no solution.

    @mudgel :
You are right about the naming conventions.
Before my problem occured I could use the mono channels from "ASIO Driver In 1 Left" (=Channel 1) to "ASIO Driver In 15 Right" (=Channel 16).
So I had to select eight checkboxes Inputs (1/3/5/7/9/11/13/15) to use 16 mono channels.
    And that worked perfectly !

But my problem is that I cannot select all input channels anymore since some changes in the system (?) I don't know.
    • I'm selecting "1/3/5/7/9/11/13/15"
    • then I press "Apply"
    • SONAR shows "1/3/5/7" checked and "9/11/13/15" unchecked

    Any idea ?

    Thanks
    Gerhard

    Hi Gerrard.

I am not sure if this applies to the XR18, but I use an X32 and the mode of the usb IO can be set to 8, 16 or 32 channels on the mixer itself, causing sonar to respond accordingly. Perhaps there is a similar setting on the XR18 that somehow got changed?

    Hi tenfoot,

    a good idea ...
The XR18 Setup lets me choose between "2/2 ch" (Stereo Sum only) and  "18/18 ch" (thats what I need) mode.

When I switch between them Sonar reacts like expected and shows me either one stereo channel or nine.
But in 18/18-mode it accepts only four stereo channels to be selected at the same time.

When I use another DAW (eg Reaper) I can use all the channels.
So imho it must be Sonar related ...

Is it a limitation in Sonar X1 LE ?
But why should it have worked until some days ago ?

    Any other idea ?

    Thanks
    Gerhard

    Hi Gerrard.

According to older posts on another forum X1le is limited to a total of 8 simultaneous IO chanels, which would explain the problem you are having selecting more. I am not sure why it would have worked differently in the past.

Does selecting less output channels allow you to select more input channels?

    Bruce.

    Hi,

    @tenfoot : ok, I understand, but aren't 8 IO channels <> 16 mono (that's what I was using) ?

In the meanwhile I completely restructured my system - with no better results.
So I gave up ... and moved to another DAW that Behringer provides with the XAir18 - it works fine (and gives me a clear error message, when I select an interface, that is unusable).

Thanks to all that spent time with my problem.
    Have a good recording-time
