It looks dreadful up there Glyn, those poor folks.

And they must be rather perplexed to say the least, having been told by the Environment Agency and others that the recent floods were down to "once in a century" circumstances.

We took a holiday in The Lake District in 2014 and to see some of the places we visited under several feet of water puts into perspective how bad it is.

I suppose we might hope that these type of events will eventually lead to somebody addressing the root problems instead of the usual approach of patching up the 'symptoms'.

Astonishing pics on the news this morning..Leeds, Manchester, York, all under water. I honestly don't know how people pick themselves up and start again after that, especially when it's happened before, like in Hebden Bridge.

Yes its big cities being flooded, a terrable mess.

The Somerset Levels flooding of the past few years was pretty bad, it went on for weeks but there were comparatively few people affected, but devestating for those who were, whole villages were cut off for weeks. I remember the view from the train, a sea of water streaching to the distant Mendip Hills.

Meanwhile things are bad in Texas too.

this was my sister's house yesterday (she lives in Barrowford near Nelson,Lancashire). Fortunately the river stopped rising and only her cellar was flooded

And to make matters even less congenial it looks like the North of the UK might now be in for some gales and severe gales.

It seems half of England's been flooded over the last five or six years, many places several times while the winters get warmer and wetter. I'm told it hasn't been below freezing where I grew up in the Staffordshire moorlands yet this winter. 40 years ago there'd usually have been at least a few days with 8 inches of snow or more on the ground and temperatures of -10 or less by Christmas.

The climate appears to be increasingly broken...

Latest storm is brewing, those poor folk are going to get hit again tonight and tomorrow. Just been reading about biker gangs patrolling the streets to deter looters and checking up on the old people, getting them supplies from the shops. Got to love that.

I think they should drop this new idea of giving the storms names, it just seems to encourage them.

Think that would work with the Royals too?

No sleep tonight, storm's been raging since 8pm (5.30am now). Rain and wind hasn't let up for a minute. Studio window's leaking, got towels on the window sill to soak it up.

My neighbours up the road have a river running through their garden. I hope they have the floodgates on, they were flooded out a couple of years ago. The excess on their home insurance is £15K...
