Windows 10, Zoom R16 Nightmares
I thought I had this resolved...but I do not. This is the brief history of my pain: Windows 10 did not like my Zoom R16 ASIO drivers. No matter what I did, I could not stop the constant crackles and pops. I've tried all of the suggested PC optimization tips...no improvement. Finally I switched to the WASAPI drivers and the problem was solved...so I thought. Although the play back of previously recorded material works fine now, the recording of new material is a completely different situation. Any audio I record has a severe "motor-boating" or "gargling" sound that is as loud as the intended audio. Adjusting the buffer size does not make it better nor does it make it worse. I have all the latest updates for Windows, Sonar and for the Zoom R16. I do notice, however, that Zoom has not release an official Windows 10 driver yet for the R16. Do I have to stop recording until they release drivers for it? I already have a Presonus FirePod that that I use as a door stop... I do have an old Tascam 244 that doesn't have driver issues... I love Sonar and I'm not blaming them for this issue but I am very tired of spending FAR more time troubleshooting than actually making music. So until Zoom decides (or decides not to) release Windows 10 drivers, is there anything I can do to actually record music?

I wish I could help ... I hadn't thought of my R24 vs WinX yet. I'll think I'll stay on the bench ... The Zoom site has drivers that include Win 10, but the version number hasn't changed.

I didn't realize that the 2.0.0 driver was also for Win 10. I had already installed it...so that's even more disappointing.

That's what the description says on the Zoom site ... I downloaded again and the install instructions make no mention of Win 10. I think Zoom is trying to pull a fast one Have you checked in at the Zoom forum?

I am using the Zoom R16 with windows 10 and works fine here. I am using the 2.0 driver but it also worked with the older driver as well. When I first installed the driver using SPLAT it said I had no driver ASIO device. I loaded up X3 and it did not complain at all, so I loaded back up SPAT and all was good. I have no idea what that was all about but all is good now. Brian

Did you get the 64bit 2.0.0 driver? They have a 64bit and a 32bit. Have you tried their support? I never seriously tried to use the R-16 as a controller, I tried back in the X-1 days but gave up. There is a video for using it with Cubase, I don't know if it might help or not. Might be worth a look. There is a forum too.. http://zoomforum.us/viewforum.php?f=17&sid=8ad8960a635004c175384e453f16c294 J

I just installed a bootleg copy of Cubase Elements 7 just to see what would happen. In Elements, the audio records fine :/

From the R-16 forum: Postby Vynalguy » Tue Sep 01, 2015 6:50 pm Fixed... R16 is now working with windows 10. The driver reinstall probably did do the trick, but I just turned on the interface the way I normally did when the driver was working and with the newly installed driver i had to do the "first time" startup as opposed to the second time and thereafter procedure as indicated in the interface manual. I am still not sure if the r16 would have worked if I had just used the "first time" procedure with the the original installed driver or if the uninstall and reinstall did the trick. Thanks for your reply and you were correct in your assumption about the reinstall. 0 x

It is bloody frustrating. In a new blank sonar project, the audio now records fine. When I go back to the songs that I have COUNTLESS hours invested, I have the gargling audio problem still while recording new audio. So it appears that this may be just a corrupt file problem. Not that it makes this any less fun. I will submit a problem report for the file and will hope that no one else has this much fun. I will salvage what loops I can and start over...
