[CWBRN-43279] Tascam US-16x08 WDM/KS drivers just noise in Sonar (but OK in Reaper)

Before I dive in, I want to emphasise that the ASIO drivers that come with the 16x08 work fine in Sonar. However, I have always used WDM for reasons that shall become clear.
---
If I try to record with the WDM drivers, the moment I arm a track I get a constant stream of white noise. The VU meters hit the red. Recording is impossible.

I then tried the 16x08 with Reaper 5.11 with both ASIO and WDM drivers. Both work in Reaper.

I then installed ASIO4All, which wraps the WDM drivers and makes them look ASIO - and Sonar worked! I could record with the 16x08.

Just to make sure ASIO4All really WAS taking the WDM drivers, I then also connected my Tascam US-1641 and my US-1800. All three interfaces were visible in ASIO4All and subsequently also visible in Sonar.

I then did tests and apart from the expected poor latency and a slight out-of-sync between the 3 interfaces (easily fixable in post), I can record from all 3 interfaces at the same time. Standard ASIO does not allow multiple interfaces, WDM does, so that proves ASIO4All really is taking, and working correctly, with the Tascam WDM drivers.

Next I uninstalled ASIO4All, hooked Sonar directly via WDM/KS - and again I get that constant white noise when I arm a track.

In conclusion, there is something new in the 16x08 drivers that Sonar is getting wrong.  Whatever it is, Reaper and ASIO4All do it right.

I have the latest Tascam US-16x08 drivers installed, 1.04 at time of writing.
I tested in SPlat Lexington, X3e, X1 and 8.5.3. All the same problem.

In conclusion, there is something in the new Tascam WDM drivers that Sonar is having difficulty with and should be looked at.

I have verified the problem with WDM/KS in Sonar Platinum.  At least one other DAW has no issues with the 16x08 WDM/KS.

I had ASIO problems with BiaB.  The dev did some tweaking and came out with a release that solved the problems.  The fix was described as fixing problems with "Int24 LSB" interfaces.  Maybe that's a clue.  Or maybe not.

Yep, confirmed here: WDM produces white noise and WASAPI ranges from grainy to heavily distorted. ASIO is the only low latency model that works well in SPlat.
