Z3TA+2 problem with MIDI file

Hi everyone,
 
I just loaded a midi file of Genesis "Cinema Show" into Sonar Platinum and I assigned the original Z3ta+ as a VST on the synthesizer track.  I actually did this by accident as I wanted to assign Z3TA+2.  Much to my surprise, Z3ETA + started to change synthesizer sounds throughout the song.  It was awesome and I could also use the Joystick on my Korg Triton Extreme to further manipulate the sound. I assume the midi file has instructions written in it to do this.  Now, when I changed the VST to Z3TA +2, the sounds on the VST did not automatically change like they did on the Z3TA+.  
I opened both VST with 1.Simple Instrument Track, 2.Enable Midi Output and 3. Recall Assignable Controls checked off in the Insert Soft Synth Options. 
 
Is it possible to get Z3TA + 2 to read the patch changes on the synthesizer track the way Z3ta+ did?
