Ozone 7 Mp3 preview bug ?
Hi guyz , i've pulled the trigger on ozone 7 Advanced to show it and use it in cours for my students . OIt's very pedgogical and handy (the EDU price for the regular version is 129$ witch is crazy giving the package ) But i experienced during my havy testing a bug when i want to preveiw mp3 ....in fact i can't preview it , when i hit artefacts monitoring i actually klistento it , but then when i don't , no sound , totally weird while AAC is working .. i must point out that in stand alone mode it's working so , any of you guyz can confim this ? using the vst 2 version 64 in platnum

It's not you, I had this same problem. For me the problem is the Ozone 7 installer assumes you will install it to C:\Program Files (x86)\iZotope\Ozone 7 if you don't all sorts of bad things happen. I contacted them within a few hours of Ozone 7's release about their problems with the software assuming this and they admitted it was wrong but obviously haven't bothered to update it or fix it. For the MP3 preview problem the plugin attempts to load C:\Program Files (x86)\iZotope\Ozone 7\win64\libmp3lame.dll and when it fails rather than tell you, it just causes the MP3 preview to not work. In my case I had installed Ozone to d:\Apps\iZotope\Ozone 7 (I don't put things in c:\Program Files or c:\Program Files (x86) if I have a choice) In order to fix the MP3 preview I just made a copy of the binary files in d:\Apps\iZotope\Ozone 7 into C:\Program Files (x86)\iZotope\Ozone 7 (so the win64 directory with it's copy of the lame DLL) was in the right place. This fixed the MP3 preview for me. I think it may also fix the in-plugin help or something else, can't really remember exactly. If this is your problem you might want to contact them and complain, clearly they ignored me since Ozone has yet to get any updates or changes.

I had a strange problem the other day. After using the MP3 preview feature, the output meters stopped working. I had to close the project and re-open it to get Ozone's meters to come back.

yep i noticed that when i tried to load the help file , he said it was missing , such a shame ....for a PRo Audio company on its flagship ... I will test and report back , i will have a look at the registry or try to find the install path file to edit it .... the srange thing is that it works for AAC ? doesn't it need a file too ? and why is it wroking in stand alone ....? strange ....

The problem is the VST plugin doesn't use the registry's path to load the support items (the LAME DLL and the help). It appears to ask Windows for the Program Files dir and uses that. Which would be great if you installed it there. The stand alone version doesn't have this problem because it runs from the directory with the LAME DLL. A VST is kind of a different world. The reason this only applies to MP3 format is because they are using the LAME DLL to provide MP3 support. And since the only way to ship LAME is in a separate DLL (due to it's license) it means the plugin has to find the DLL. And in this case they are doing that badly. For AAC they must have internal code.

I believe you only need the PDF and the lame DLL in the correct subdirectories for the 64 and 32 bit versions. But I got tired of it and just did the whole thing I think. I guess I should have just uninstalled it and reinstalled it using their "forced" defaults. It's a Boston software developer problem. They have a "style" and it doesn't seem to include user control over installs. Cakewalk and iZotope (and pretty much every other Boston based software company) have this mental defect. It's why the Cakewalk Command Center is broken by design.

Mathew, what is the name of the LAME dll that Ozone uses? I've got everything in \program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\izotope and I don't see any support DLLs there other than the runtime libraries (e.g. iZOzone7.dll). Nothing with the word "LAME" in it except Cakewalk's TTSLAME.DLL. I'm wondering if this might be why Ozone's getting discombobulated when I use the MP3 preview feature, but not when it's AAC, which I presume is built in to the runtime library.

C:\Program Files (x86)\iZotope\Ozone 7\win64\libmp3lame.dll So it won't find your install in the Cakewalk dir. It just blindly ignores where you installed it to. That's the path on 64 bits. The 32bit version uses the same path but different sub-dir C:\Program Files (x86)\iZotope\Ozone 7\win32\libmp3lame.dll If you are on 32 bit windows: C:\Program Files\iZotope\Ozone 7\win32\libmp3lame.dll

I should be a bit more specific there are two parts to Ozone. The standalone version, which is also where the LAME dll (libmp3lame.dll) and PDF help is installed and the VST/plugin which can go where ever you want it to (the VST3 version has to go into the standard VST3 directories which aren't supposed to be user configurable). The Ozone 7 plugin version doesn't look at where you actually installed the standalone binary, it only uses/looks at the c:\Program Files (x86)\iZotope\Ozone 7 directory.

is common that they ignore people ? I sent them a support tiket about the demo one wekk ago with no anwser , i bought the damm thing to demo it !! (but i liked it so it was ok) and now you're telling that a seriuos bug has been ignored ? not even a reply ? I just orderd the poruction bundle upgarde , hope i'm not going to regret my love affair with izotope I tested izotope back in the dayz and it sucked , vulgaorus processing , nowdayz it's real mature and great tools around ... but maintenace /support are key in my book ....

It's not a serious bug for them. If you install it in Program Files on your C: drive, everything works just fine. They did reply to my ticket, but I had solved my problems so there wasn't really anything more they could do. The solution for most users is to uninstall and reinstall where it wants to. I gave up trying to get Sonar Platinum into my D: drive. The main Sonar binary is now on my C: drive (but my support stuff is on my D: drive, I'm sure that will bite me one of these days). It's hard to win an install war. To be honest I had assumed iZotope would ship an update, but holidays always make that tricky. I'm sure they will sort it all out one of these days.

Thanks for the info. Matthew. I found it right where you said it would be. It hadn't occurred to me that it would be in the (x86) tree, duh. I expect to see an update this Spring. Historically, iZotope's maintenance plan has been the traditional save up a bunch of fixes, test thoroughly and release them all at once. Consequently, you just don't see a whole lot of fix releases from them. This is borne out by looking at retired products' final versions (e.g. Ozone 3 is 3.1, Ozone 6 is 6.1).

msorrels It's not you, I had this same problem.
This thread is another reminder of why it's helpful to visit the forum. I hadn't even thought to check if the feature was working in my Ozone 7. I did the same kind of install. I don't install program to the C drive whenever possible. I tried what you've suggested above. Not sure if I interpreted it correctly. It doesn't seem to have fixed mine yet. I just took the lamemp3.dll that was installed in the D directory of my Ozone 7 install and put a copy into C:\Program Files (x86)\iZotope\Ozone 7. Then I tried Ozone 7 and monitoring if there was anythign different going on with the Codec preview. I didn't hear anything different. Can you make some further clarification or suggestion what I may have missed? Thanks!

You need to put it into C:\Program Files (x86)\iZotope\Ozone 7\win64\libmp3lame.dll You need that extra win64 (or win32 if you want to use the 32-bit version) directory. The help PDF goes in C:\Program Files (x86)\iZotope\Ozone 7\Ozone 7 Help Documentation.pdf
