Now Time Marker disappearing

Sometimes when I switch form the console view back to the track view the now time marker is no longer visible. Is there any keyboard shortcut to show/hide the now time marker? I probably accidentally press a key on the keyboard that hides it.

Happy New Year!

How are you switching? By pressing "D"?
What happens if you drag the console window down half-way so you can see Track and Console views and then switch?

I open the console view by alt+2 and close it with the mouse.

It sometimes happens when I'm in the track view, zoomed in on a clip. When I zoom out and press play, the now time marker is no longer visible.

The only solution then is to close/reopen the project.

I work with all windows maximized, so I don't know what happens when console and track views are open together, will try that next time.

No, they are not "open together". You can drag the bottom/top edge of the window up and down, like a window blind. So although you have the "Console" tab visible at the bottom, you can drag half-way and see both.

Then, if you hit "D", it flips the track view to the front and back.

But probably the Now marker is outside of your visible window, that's all.

It cannot be outside of the visible window as I can't see it at all after pressing Shift+F to see entire project. Also, when I click on the time ruler, let's say on the 3rd measure mark and press Space, playback starts from there but the now marker is nowhere to be seen...

    Yes, repeatable.
Shift + F fullscreens the track I just recorded, but it also kills the Now marker.

...and now I cannot make the Now marker disappear again.
But I am getting other strange effects in X1, such as when I move a window size, it is not redrawing correctly.
No, sorry, I am not getting very far.

This has been mentioned before, and it seems there are two potential issues. One is that this can happen in older versions of SONAR, another is that a graphics card driver needs updating.

I can't recreate the problem. It seems to be happening at random.

I have the latest driver for my graphics card (960gtx) and the latest version of Sonar Artist.

    This is specifically Sonar X1.
    Platinum is fine.

I just had this happen to me and it's never happened before. Going to see if there is an update for my vid card to see if that fixes it. The newest update was just installed and on my first project, after going through screen sets into console view, I went back to edit view and noticed my now time marker was gone.

Ok, on my end I do not think this is a bug. I managed to figure out how to make the now time marker disappear. I have been doing a few projects in Sonar 8.5. In using it, I sometimes go into console view and then X out of it. I was doing that in Sonar Platinum where if audio is NOT playing, you would shut down the program. So it is my belief that the time line is going away missing instead of the project shutting down in the middle of a playback due to me pressing X to get out of console view instead of selecting a new screen set. So if anyone may be hitting X by accident or whatever, that could be a reason you are losing your now time. I don't think anyone would want to close Sonar while audio is playing....but this is one way to make your line disappear. :)

I haven't seen this myself since X1, but at that time it seemed to help to set Windows Visual Effects for "Best Appearance", rather than "Let windows Choose", "Best Performance" or some Custom setting with some effects unchecked.

That's what I've been doing. I still can't get used to the new layout and I keep pressing X on the top when closing console view causing the now marker to disappear.

    It is a bug though.

Maybe I misunderstood. Are we talking about the Now Marker that indicates where playback started (if On Stop Rewind to Now is enabled), or the Now Cursor that moves during playback? And does it matter whether On Stop Rewind is enabled or not?

Also, is the Console floated or unfloated when maximized?

I can't seem to reproduce a problem with any permutation of these options.

It's both. The now marker and the vertical line that moves during playback. Rewind on stop option on/off doesn't make any difference to the bug.

Open a project, press Play. Open console view, maximize it. Hit the X in the upper right hand corner as you would close console view in older versions of Sonar. Then close console view normally. Now marker and Now Cursor are gone.
Another example. Open a project. Once you've hit Play, open Console in normal view (not maximized). Then click on top of the console window and drag it all the way to the top so it covers the Track view completely. Hit the X on the top then either close the console or drag its window down back to where it was.

Above examples are with the console docked.

Ah, okay. I get it now. I think the recipe can be simplified to:

    - Click the Close button for the project window while the transport is running.
    - Change the size of the Multidock pane by any means (i.e. D, Shift+D or dragging the splitter bar).

It's not specific to the Console view; anything can be showing in the Multidock. And it's not necessary to completely hide the Track View by maximizing the window. Any change in the size of the dock after clicking the close button will trigger it.
