VST Plugin Analyzer
I can't find any plugin analyzers. The only one I know of which is no longer available is the Christian Budde one. Are there any others out there?

That's the only one I know about. You should still be able to find it if you look hard, as it's been copied all over the net. I suspect he took it off his own site because he just didn't want to bother supporting it anymore. Even though it was clearly advertised as unsupported, that didn't stop users from pestering him with how-to questions, enhancement requests, and demands for a 64-bit and/or VST3 version.

I went to his website and he is working on a vst 64bit version but he is asking for $$ for his time to create it which is reasonable. I don't know if people are donating yet.

That's good news. I would contribute to that, even in my financially-strapped state. That little application has proven very useful to me over the years, and I'd love to see it support 64-bit plugins. I wonder why he hasn't gone the Kickstarter / GoFundMe route. If word got out on KVR and similar forums I don't think he'd have any trouble raising the desired 1500 EUR.

It lets you do a "black box" analysis on any effect plugin by running a signal through it and graphing the output. Many of the tests could be performed without it, e.g. running a sine through a plugin and checking for harmonics with SPAN. This is what I did before I discovered VST Analyzer, and it's what I do now. The analyzer makes it very convenient. It also performs a couple tests that are difficult or time-consuming to set up in your DAW, such as phase analysis. For example, say you've got some magical effect such as Voice of God, MaagEQ, Clariphonic or BBE, and you want to expose its mojo. VST Analyzer will let you see what such plugins are really doing. It can expose weaknesses such as phase and harmonic distortion, aliasing and frequency non-linearities. It can reassure you that the effects you're using were good purchases, or it can make you smack your head and wonder why you ever got advice from KVR in the first place.

Bit, How do I set this up? There is an ASIOVST.dll which I put in my vst folder. Can pull it up in Sonar. It lets me select ASIO and finds my setting. The vst analyzer is an .exe file. I don't know how to get it to see a plugin. Fabfilter proq2 for example.

It's a VST host, like SONAR. So you run the executable and then go to VST Plugin -> Load and give the full path to the plugin. Bear in mind that it can't load 64-bit or VST3 plugins, so if you want to check out Pro-Q you'll need to point the analyzer to the 32-bit version.

Ah that's why it wasn't working. I don't use 32bit plugs anymore. I guess I should donate for the 64bit version.

I thought this was going to be about the one Minnetonka released years ago that will tell you how much resources a plugin uses.

Mosvalve Ah that's why it wasn't working. I don't use 32bit plugs anymore. I guess I should donate for the 64bit version.
If you want to do some serious investigation, e.g. comparing your equalizers, it's worth it to install the 32-bit versions just for that purpose. You can put them in the analyzer's folder, out of SONAR's search paths so they don't confuse you when selecting plugins for your projects. Anything the analyzer tells you about the 32-bit version is going to be applicable to the 64-bit version as well.
