Zoom R16, Sonar Platinum Lexington and Windows 10

I have recently been pissing and moaning about audio issues and my inability to solve my problems. One of the challenges and frustrations is that everyone has a slightly different hardware setup. So this post is intended to help anyone with a similar setup and a similar set of problems.

I was having two types of problems:
(First), I could not get Sonar to properly load the Zoom ASIO drivers. The Zoom would display a sampling rate of 44.1K on the device itself but as soon as I opened Sonar, the sample rate would jump to 96K. When this would happen, Sonar would either show no Zoom inputs at all or they would be grayed out and useless.

(Second), At this point I switched to the WASAPI driver mode. In this mode the audio would record with a load gargling sound, no matter how I adjust the buffer settings...totally unusable.

I reinstalled drivers, firmware, Windows updates...no luck.

I tried every computer optimization tip I could find...no luck.

I rolled back Sonar to the Kingston version...no luck.

Since I had only recently upgraded to Windows 10, I chose to roll back to Windows 8.1 (you only have 30 days to do this from the time of your Windows 10 upgrade). This solved ALL the problems !!! So then I reinstalled Lexington and everything is STILL fine.

So if anyone is having trouble with a Zoom R16, Sonar and Windows 10, remember; you only have 30 days to roll back Windows 10. Once you do so, it tells you that you can reinstall Windows 10 anytime in the future.

I don't plan on reinstalling Windows 10 until Zoom comes up with proper Windows 10 drivers. Their driver download page says R16/R24 Audio Driver For Windows Vista/7/8/8.1/10 (64-bit) Version 2.0.0, however, the actual file is  dated April 4th, 20013. Looks like a bit of pencil whipping to me.

Hope this helps anyone with similar troubles.
