How to copy/paste beats in step sequencer?

Hi Guys,
I have 8 beats x 4 steps of drums and would like to make a copy for the next 8 beats but with a small variation. What's the recommended way of doing that?
I would do that as copying and pasting the beats but not sure if there is such an option.
Thanks!

Ah, found out myself.
First I had to copy the midi clip as usually, then unlink them via context menu, and then double-click on each other invokes the corresponding step sequencer.
Oh gosh, the UI could have been more consistent! At the same time I am happy there is such option at all.

However, now it comes the next problem.
Steps 1 and steps 2 now have to go one after another, like
steps1,steps2,steps1,steps2,steps1,steps2...

So there is no point to create additional independent steps, as it would be just a repetition of steps1,steps2

Is there any way to join two steps into one, so I could copy them as a whole?

Select the clips then "Bounce to Clip(s)" in the Track View Clips menu

Not sure what Bounce To Clip does... First, it kills both step sequencers. Second, I cannot slip edit the unified clip after that (?)

It creates a new clip. If you want to edit the new clip in the Step Sequencer, click the edit menu on the upper right-hand side of the clip and select the Step Sequencer.
