I'm confused by the upgrade / store options... followed upgrade path from X1, went straight onto monthly with Platinum. Have been on monthly rolling for 15 months. Now i don't know whether the option i'm seeing in the store of £118 'PAY ONE TIME' is 'lifetime updates' or whether it's just for another 12 months?

If anyone can advise would be much appreciated.

The lifetime option is a special link sent by e-mail. I believe it was only sent to SONAR Platinum users who purchased SONAR Platinum last year and renewed using the one-time purchase option earlier this year. There will be an announcement for everyone else June 1st.

Thanks scook.

At the time of upgrading to platinum, my understanding was that 'buy one-time' and the 'monthly' rolling were just two options of the same thing. I didn't realise that buying up-front showed more loyalty to the product. Am pretty disapointed if that's the case as i would have bought outright. By going monthly have ended up paying more too which i didn't mind, was just convenient at the time... Oh well.
Thanks again.

the current lifetime upgrade promotion is not a matter of loyalty but a matter of current investment in SONAR Platinum. The users offered the promotion in advance of June 1st have already purchased 2 years of SONAR Platinum.

ah... ok, that makes a bit more sense.
Still, i wish i'd not gone monthly now, as i'd be better off wouldn't I if i'd subscribed 1 year up front... Wouldn't have been a problem to do that, just that i went monthly for convenience.
Roll on mystery announcement then... i've rolled for 16 months and would have paid the extra months to have gotten an offer like that.
The sudden mixed messages and confusing upgrade paths all feels a bit cloak and dagger which is a shame because i love the product.
Cheers scook anyway.

I only upgraded Studio X3 to Professional less than 5 weeks ago, and I find out now I could have saved that cost and got a deal on Platinum with Lifetime Updates by staying on the older version.

There again, I'm really not clear what the right price is.  The Cakewalk store informs me that the price is 420gbp... massively above the advertised 299usd upgrade pricing, even with VAT.

I have a similar problem with the pricing having upgraded two weeks before the renouncement I submitted a ticked last Wednesday and am waiting for a response. I'm guessing from the posts here that they have had a lot of questions about this offer.

arressen, make sure you're logged in. The price in GBP is 199 for you.

Thanks Joey.  I think my earlier comment was during the time when Cakewalk were rolling out the new offer, and there were some problems with the pricing rules, which have been resolved now. I do now see the offer price as 238.80GBP (which is the 199 plus VAT @ 20%).

I've already decided not to go ahead with doing this. In part that is because I don't find the pricing attractive - I had already paid for an upgrade (and 12 months' of updates) just a few weeks before this deal was announced, and the offer pricing took no account of that. I can get one-off upgrades over the coming years without spending the money up front.

In addition, I am really concerned about the level of support, or more to the point the lack of it. I have had multiple crashes, one of which has been reported and passed to development but I still have no idea what is happening with it. I have two more that were supposedly reported (I have the email confirmations from Cakewalk) but they are not listed on the "My Problem Reports" page, and nobody has attempted to follow up.

If I have to spend 238.80 right now, quite honestly my best bet would be on a competitor's product.

Hi arressen,

I haven't read through all the posts so someone may have suggested it, but I got my lifetime upgrade through Audiodeluxe, currently it is $168 US which is roughly £128 GBP.

Andrew.

Thanks for that Andrew, but the price Joey quoted is correct for my specific upgrade. My objection is that I had already upgraded from X3 just a few weeks before the announcement, but the pricing takes no account of that fact. If I had not upgraded I would still be paying 238.80GBP for this upgrade now, so the money I have already spent is effectively wasted.

Im wondering if anybody has had a similar experience. Customer support is not responsive for a 4 months (email). I emailed the following today:

Heloooo, my name is mike. I have a sonar platinum subscription ( or I did ). I was paying 49.99 a year. ten months later I was offered a promotion of some sort. on 1-17-16 I made a one time payment of $99 that was marked down from a $525 price tag. 3-27-16 is my year anniversary for my subscription for sonar platinum. I noticed my payment from 49.99 has dropped down to 14.99 per month. I emailed numerous times and tried calling but I get no answers. Instead I get offers to buy more stuff at 15% off from your cakewalk store for my inconvenience. I simply was asking what the one time payment of $99 was for. I was under the impression that the one time payment of $99.99 was paying for the next year of my subscription? on 6-30-16 I am now receiving a refund on 6 payments and my subscription is now in demo mode. I never cancelled my subscription and am very confused as to why there is absolutely no communication on your part. Now I am assuming I have to start my subscription over and pay full rate of 49.99 for a year again?!

Im hoping I might be able to get  an answer to what I was paying for. I am pretty sure that after paying the one time $99 replaced the 14.99/mo. payment.

to add to my confusion... although it says Im in demo mode. I do not notice any limitations. what are the limitations of the demo versions if there are any?

You are still responsible for canceling the monthly payment plan. This can be done by using the link provided on the billing from Cleverbridge.

Demo mode usually means data will not be saved. Demo mode should not happen if you have a full license to SONAR.

It is not to late to cancel the old payment plan. Did you make any additional payments after taking advantage of the promotion?

Well; Now old users aren't being helped in kind, (pre Gibson , x2 x3 and previous), That sucks drastically and shows how money grubbing this new Sonar is. As Well as now we pay for yearly updates, The Old Sonar ,gave you updates. Money lovers like to punish us for there profit margin and using there product.... what a bunch of low lifes !!!
