Video making and sonar
How do you make your videos to match your music?
I'm assuming I produced a song and want to post it to you tube.
I know sonar has a video window above the track view but is it useful for this?
Do I download some video editing program and bring a bunch of video clips in to it in order to coordinate the timing and then save?

I've never added video to music using Sonar. I have donw a video before, but while the music was created in Sonar, I created the videos using Sony Vegas. (not DVD architect as I had said previously)

I use Sony Vegas, found it very straightforward to use.

Hi,
thx ... I need to start playing around with one of these ... going after Sony Vegas for now.
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

I'm gonna get me an inexpensive video recorder, because it has a better ability than most cell phones and stuff, and then play with it ... then, I'll graduate to doing visuals for my favorite musics and such ... and the first project is to redo one I did many years ago on 8MM which was a Kevin Ayers song with his permission. I hope to be able to do this ... and it will be my tribute to a lot of his work.

I can see making videos can become at least as complex as doing the original audio mixing.
I'll probably start off with something very very simple instead of trying to make any award winning vids.

Ck out Sony Movie Maker at about $40. 90% of Vegas at a fraction of the cost. Make your music in Sonar and import it into your video program, is currently the best way in my opinion. If you're shooting with a DSLR, video camera, etc... keep the audio on the video, so you can sync things up. Then ditch the camera audio. At least that's what I do. The Sony Movie Studio Suite is about $120 and has more bells and whistles. Vegas is great, but has much you may not need for now. Vegas to Movie Maker is kinda like Sonar Platinum to Music Creator.

I have one video on youtube - Vernon Corv (that's me) "Who Ya Gonna Blame". Check it out.
I have a pretty good Canon HD camcorder, and edit in Adobe Premier Elements.
What I did was get the song recorded in Sonar first, then for the parts of the video where a musician is actually performing, playback the good Sonar recording and play along/sing along or lip-sync with the Sonar while recording the video. As mixmkr said, it is very important to include the audio in the video no matter how bad it sounds - This makes syncing about 500 times easier than if you did not record the sound on the video. Make several takes from different angles and distances so you can have variety in your finished product. When you are finished shooting, import the video into your editor. Many editors can make use of several video tracks. Import the Sonar audio. Sync all the audio by sliding clips. Then go wild cutting and splicing the video, add still photos...maybe some animation.
