Death of a Salesman^WSansamp
Tech21's decision to be 'cool' and not fit a power switch to the PSA-1 finally bit me in the ass last Friday and it died. It had already gone a bit wonky a few years ago in that you needed to go into the system settings and disable the midi control/front panel for it to not make skritchy noises after setting up a patch, but other than that, it was still fully functional sound-wise.
I was installing a new mixer and this involved some re-jigging of the power leads (although not that belonging to the PSA-1). I should probably have shut the whole mains circuit off first maybe, oh well. During this process the PSA-1 got rather upset; the display was showing garbage afterwards (completely unresponsive) and the unit was sounding like a bag of cats in a blender. Alas, it's been my main preamp/tone/DI box for guitar/recording for countless years now.
However, £600 to replace it? No thanks. I note that they have fitted a power switch to the front panel in the 1.1 version. Slow clap!
Anyway, I was wondering if anybody here was up for the challenge of getting it repaired, or if it might contain some spare parts which would be of use? It's either that or the electronics bin at the local tip. I'd be happy to ship to the UK free of charge, but for the US I'd probably like some help with the P&P. PM or or respond to this thread if interested, either's good.
I've ordered a Digitech GSP1101 to replace it. It was that or a TC Electronic G-Major 2, but I think the Digitech fits my needs better (although I really do rate TC's stuff highly). I have a sinkingly reckless feeling that both might happen before too long :-)
