Well, this is what I found so far regarding using EZDrummer2. PLEASE NOTE that I am just beginning to look at this, but I have made some progress. The following may not be 100% accurate, but I wanted to share. -Bob
It seems that if you do not open an old (pre-EZD2) project in just the right way, you will corrupt it. In my case, all or most of the audio tracks associated with a synth disappear - with no hope of recovery as far as I can tell.
However, if you do the following, you may be okay:
1. Before using SONAR in a post-EZD2 environment, back up all your projects. I would suggest copying them to a dedicated special-purpose location (folder) so you know these were saved as part of the EZD2 install.
2. After the initial EZD2 install, go back to Toontrack.com and download/install any updates. Even if you just bought and downloaded your EZD2, it will need to be updated. I also installed the new sound libraries.
NOTE: For the next steps, I suggest using an existing project that is not too complicated, important or you care much about.
[steps 3 and 4 only need to be performed once]
3. Open a project in SONAR. Open the EZD synth. I think that at that time it will ask you to register and all that business. Maybe you need to add EZD2 to the project...I can't remember. When that is all done, close the project WITHOUT SAVING.
4. Open a project, DO NOT SAVE. Open the EZD2 synth so you see the drum set, then - at the upper right - click on Menu; Sonar Options; then make sure the "Show Number of Outputs Dialog" option has a check mark in front of it. Close the drum kit and re-open and look at the Sonar Options again, just to make sure the "Show...Dialog" is truly checked. Close the project WITHOUT SAVING!!!
[The following step need to be performed every time you open a SONAR project]
5. Open a project. You should see a little dialog box that asks you the number of outputs. For legacy projects, press the "8" button. (16 is the default value). NOTE: It is possible that this little dialog is hidden behind the big SONAR screen. If you do not see the Number of Outputs dialog, minimize SONAR to see if it is hidden behind it. If no little dialog, go back to step 4.
6. Save the project using a different name as the original. That is, if the project is called "mysong", save it as "mysong_b" or some such thing. That way, if "mysong_b" is corrupted by EZD2, you can fall back to "mysong". Also, you should probably also have the project saved in a safe place from before starting the EZD2 install.
7. Close and reopen the project. How does it sound? Any missing audio tracks? I hope not!
I will probably update this as I explore a bit further. Things are looking a little better that they were a while back, but I still am not very happy about this.
