Melodyne 4 and 2016 Plat renewal?
I saw the "...See what's coming to SONAR in spring 2016..." announcement. One of the "In development" items is Melodyne 4 Essential. I popped out to the Melodyne website and discovered that I can update my Editor edition of Melodyne to Melodyne 4 Editor now. So, the question is, will Melodyne Editor 4 work with SONAR PLAT now or should I wait until Cake releases an update specific to Melodyne 4?

I personally see no reason that M4E would NOT work now. It's ARA aware. I've been wrong before but over in the software fprum some have a;ready got M4 so you might ask them. (I have to wait until Wednesday next to order mine ).

I would also like to upgrade now if I don't run into trouble later when Melodyne 4 will be added to Sonar.

I had Melodyne Editor for 2-3 years before Sonar added it. No problem at all in the marrying of the products for me.

Curious as to whether there will be Cakewalk specific upgrade discounts as before.

Seems to be working okay in Sonar Platinum, the only issue which is nothing to do with Sonar as it occurs in standalone version as well is that although it is indicating that the input is melodic I have had to force a redetection of the algorithm a 2nd time in order for the track to appear in melodic format. Maybe some setting I haven't set properly but in any case appears to be compatible with Sonar.

I've just upgraded from Editor 2 to the latest Studio 4 and had a brief check of the current SPlat (Lexington) ARA integration and the new v4 Studio shows up (replaced V2 Editor) and is working as expected. The update process was rather seamless, as I just ran the Melodyne installer and a few seconds later it was done. Cheers, Billy Buck

Are there any changes in the licensing or authorization process? Thanks.

I've just done the same thing, and it went very smpoothly and works fine. Licensing (I'm using ilok) is exactly the same. I just went to Studio because the difference between upgrading to Editor 4 or Studio 4 (especially from audiodeluxe) was pretty small. I'm pretty sure Studio is going to be overkill for me though. I've actually emailed Celemony to ask if there is a possible path to "downgrade" back to Editor in a later version ;-)

No, it uses whatever you were using before. My authorization is tied to my DAW and still is. Some choose to use iLok instead and that is what V4 will use, if that is the preferred method. Cheers, Billy Buck

VariousArtist Worth checking this out to "verify" the latest Melodyne v4 with Sonar Platinum. Amazing engineering in the new version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_aQ7CVOqAs
Despite the title, what they show in the video seems to be standard in Mv3, too.

There are lots of updates in Melodyne 4. We worked with Celemony throughout the V4 release cycle to ensure tight integration in SONAR. Although M4 with work in X3, some of the newer features and UI in Melodyne will require the latest version of SONAR to work fully. Also there are numerous bug fixes and improvements to ARA in the latest SONAR.

That all sounds good. I think I will upgrade from editor to studio, because the special offer and the new cool sound editor is only available in studio.

By "the latest Sonar" are you referring to Lexington or are you referring to one of the Spring releases that will include Melodyne Essentials 4?

Seeing as the development of Melodyne 4 is now ready for release one could assume that the work Noel was referring to was in the past. Especially as he puts the work in the past by his use of the phrase "we worked with Celemony throughout the V4 release cycle". It's now released. So it couldn't have been with a version of Sonar that does not yet exist.

I haven't verified this, but it seems like one of the key new M4 features is not fully compatible with Sonar yet: the tempo-extraction and -manipulation seems very cool but would obviously be far more useful if the tempo information could be shared between the programs in some way... apparently this is possible in Studio One, according to this thread, but I don't have any way to check that. It would be great to know if this will make it to Sonar in the foreseeable future...

Sure it could. This page https://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Rolling-Updates#Coming-In-2016says that a "Coming in Spring 2016" feature is "Melodyne Essential 4 IN DEVELOPMENT The world’s most advanced pitch correction software has raised the bar yet again, with a new interface and tools to make Melodyne more powerful than ever. As always, it will integrate smoothly with SONAR Professional and Platinum via seamless ARA technology for the maximum workflow efficiency." It isn't spring yet. It is possible that Cakewalk has done all the development and already released that support, with the only thing for the spring being a marketing bundle of the Melodyne product. But they might still be working on some of that integration. That's why I asked the question, so I would not have to assume anything. I did install Melodyne 4 Studio and it seems to work fine with Lexington.

I went into Melodyne Essential 2 standalone yesterday, went to the about page to check the version and I was sent to the Melodyne site and was told I was eligible to upgrade Essential from 2 to 4. I pressed the upgrade button, and it updated my license and gave a link to download the new version. I downloaded it and installed it and it seems to work in Lexington. I had already renewed my Platinum membership prior to doing this, not sure if that matters or not.
