Just saw that. Great actor, a real scene-stealer.

I just read a great story about his dying scene in Die Hard. You'll probably recall the look of shock on his face when he fell to his doom. Apparently they had him fall 25ft onto an inflatable pillow for the scene, and told him that they would drop him on the count of 3. But they didn't. They dropped him on the count of one....

I took my kid on a thousand mile trip so she could get a Snape wand and outfit from Harry Potter world. She was really upset to hear her hero had passed.

Thankfully he made it through the entire series before shuffling off.  It would have been unimaginable if they'd had to switch actors as the did with Dumbledore after the first Harry Potter movie.

Professor Snape was a great character, but I'd recommend Galaxy Quest or Quigly Down Under instead for your Rickman nostalgia fix. Galaxy Quest is available on Netflix, but QDU is not.

QDU is good. I don't remember if I've seen Galaxy Quest. Maybe I would remember if I did.

Re: RIP Alan Rickman 2016/01/16 12:29:13 (permalink)
By coincidence my son and I watched Galaxy Quest just last week, as he'd never seen it before. Despite owning a copy of it and having seen it several times before, it had me rolling with laughter all over again. If Tim Allen, Tony Shalhoub or Sigourney Weaver were to drop dead next week, I'd recommend the same movie as examples of their best work, too. (OK, maybe it would be Men in Black for Shalhoub. But GQ still a close second.)

Oh, yeh, and don't forget Dogma, which also shows off Rickman's comedic chops as a dickless angel.
