Melodyne 4 essential audio to midi in Sonar?
Maybe I've misunderstood? I have Melodyne 3 essential (with Sonar), but I don't use it as I would need to upgrade to have the equivalent toolset that V-vocal provides... And I still can't afford it... But I learn its basic use and hope... I was just comparing feature sets studio/editor/assistant/essential and noticed that essential doesn't do this... I was under the belief that it was used for our way-cool drag and drop method... Which isn't full funtioned, but rudimentary and there... Is this not being handled by Melodyne? ...or are we losing this going to 4?

You can drag and audio track into MIDI track and it will convert it to MIDI. It's actually really simple. See this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHDBwBSIckAKeep in mind the versions have different algorithms.

Thanks Andrew...
That's what I remember having...
Is this a Cakewalk until that uses ARA access? The Celemony site's feature comparison chart claims essential doesn't have this...

Keni, I just did a test with Platinum Lexington and Melodyne Essential 4 and was able to drag and drop an audio file onto a midi track, and it worked as expected, lots of midi notes showed up in PRV. Celemony's site must be in error. Jim

Hmm-that supposedly is only in Editor or Studio according to their site. I have Melodyne Editor 2 Full version. Also have the essential that came with the sonar upgrades. So I will have to see if I need to upgrade to melodyne editor 4 ($99 for me) or if Essential 4 is enough. Need to research....

You can drag and drop audio into a MIDI track and convert it to MIDI notes if you have Melodyne Essential. This works in SONAR as mentioned above. Please note that Editor supports polyphonic material whereas Essential does not.

Thanks Guys... If I remember correctly, the drag method only yields note events (all the same not)... Maybe the version built into the higher model versions can do the actual notes?

I just had a play and if you drag a monophonic audio clip onto a midi track you get a flat line of midi notes. If you open the audio clip in Melodyne (Region effect) the latest version appears to open the audio as a flat line (using the universal algorithm) or correctly pitched using the melodic algorithm - I haven't sussed why it doesn't pitch straight away on some clips but all you have to do is go to the Algorithm menu and click melodic and it should pitch correctly. If you drag the Melodyned clip onto a midi track you will then get properly pitched midi notes. I haven't RTFM so there may be other ways of doing things - I just ploughed in! Grum.

Grumbleweed, I have seen the same thing with Melodyne Essential 4, sometimes you have to change the detection algorithm to get it to work properly. I recall this happening with Melodyne Essential 2 as well. Maybe setting the default algorithm to melodic instead of automatic would help, though this could cause other problems.

Thanks Guys...
Yes, I was guessing this... Are you using editor or essentials?
I'll bet changing to the melodic as default is what most people use it for... Why they set the default to percussive is anyone's guess!

I'm using the bum basic one that I sneakily updated behind Sonar's back.
Grum.
