Melodyne 4 upgrade query
Hi, like many others I got Melodyne Essential 2 with Sonar a few years ago. At the time there was a special deal where you could also upgrade to Melodyne Editor 2 for a small extra fee. I took advantage of this offer. Unfortunately it now appears that this means I won't get the free update to Melodyne 4 that many other Cakewalk subscribers will now get. Celemony only offer me a paid update when I follow the instructions. Please can someone confirm if this is the case or whether other news will be announced?

As I understand it (and I'm in the same situation): We can certainly get the free update to Melodyne 4 Essential, when it becomes available soon to Platinumites, by installing it from the CCC (which I have never done, as I had Editor installed already and hey, if it ain't broke...) - but we will not get a free upgrade to Editor 4 just because we bought an upgrade to Editor 2 previously. This seems reasonable to me. I have installed the demo of Studio 4 and am putting it through its paces. An upgrade to Studio from what we have is $125 at AudioDeluxe, which seems pretty cheap for the substantial improvements and new/increased functionality on offer - especially as Noel has dropped hints that further improvements to ARA integration, including tempo, are potentially/probably in the pipeline. I haven't decided yet - either I'll do that (likely), or I'll downgrade to Essential 4 when it drops.

AudioDeluxe is legit. There are several legitimate resellers currently offering Melodyne upgrades.

Melodyne 2 Editor to Melodyne 4 Studio for $125 is the almost-greatest no-brainers in the history of DAW history.

Cakewalk has spoiled me. I legitimately felt entitled to a free upgrade from Celemony as its become something I expect.

FYI: I did both renew SPlat and upgrade Melodyne from Audio Deluxe with no issue, and saved money.

I just got the email from Celemony and did the upgrade to 4. It was painless. I did need to uninstall the older version before I installed the new version.

have you seen the other threads...IOW opened a project with an older version and tried to play it? Seems Studio4 is giving some fits to people that had Editor2 in some projects. I hope this isn't a common situation. Edit to add... I'm doubting people uninstalled Editor 2, as apparently newer versions override older. Maybe that's the "reason"??(because they didn't uninstall first??)

I don't know Mixmkr. I have very limited experience with Melodyne. I did create a project to test it and it opened thats as far as I went. I have not gone to Editor or Studio. I just wanted to confirm that it had installed and was there. As for the uninstall that was mentioned in the email. Usually there are good reasons to follow that advice.

For some reason after the upgrade to 4 I have 2 issues. The editor opens and immediately closes when creating an FX region. Also, my previous projects that used version 2 will not open. Has anyone else had this problem?

Are you sure it is not open in the Multidock window? My Melodyne 2 projects opened but I got a warning that if I saved them (using Melodyne 4) I could no longer open them using Melodyne 2.

I'll look again to see if it's in the multi-dock window. As for the projects previously done with 2, opening them for the first time after the upgrade is not working. If it works for you, my issue must be unique. Maybe I should just reinstall everything from the start. Thanks for your response.

Can you open Melodyne as a standalone program? Some addons like VST mappers mess with the name of the external program called by Sonar. If you can open Melo as a standalone, then Sonar is somehow screwing up calling it. Check this http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3357872

Microapp, your reply makes sense. There must be an xml file or some registry that is confusing the system. I'll read the link you posted. Thanks

I finally got a response from Celemony. The problem was I didn't have the latest X3 update.
This is Celemoy's response.
"Dear Remus,
thanks for sending the video.
I can reproduce this issue here on my machine, if I use an older version of Sonar X3. But with the latest release (Sonar X3e) I can use Melodyne in ARA mode without problems. Are you using this version or maybe an older one?
Best regards
Tom Bratka Celemony Support"
Thanks to everyone that helped. Remus

Which version of Melodyne are you trying to update to? Melodyne Essentials v2 was the free version that came with SONAR, so you should be able to upgrade that to Melodyne Essentials v4 at no cost. The Editor and Studio versions, on the other hand, are paid-for updates regardless of what you currently have - I think $99 is the cost to upgrade from Melodyne Editor v2 to Melodyne Editor v4.
